April 2005
April 1st: Amy, Nicki, and Sam skipped class to go get piercings!  Amy got her tongue pierced and Sam and Nicki both got their belly-buttons pierced.  Ouch!

On Saturday, April 2nd, I had to wake up early and get ready to go to United Phoenix.  United Phoenix is a day of volunteering for GB students.  This was the first year, but they hope to have the event every year.  Rebecca, Nicki, Amy, Matt, and I went with a group of about 20 students to the N.E.W. Zoo (North Eastern Wisconsin- not as in "brand new").  We got the easiest, and cleanest job!  We walked around the zoo and picked up trash and got to look at all the animals.  Luckily, the weather was beautiful, so it turned out to be a fun day.  Later on in the evening, the volunteers got in to a comedy show on campus for free (other people could go too, but they had to pay $2 or donate 2 canned goods).  The show was pretty good; it was the improv group that I saw earlier in the year, and I liked that show better.  After the show, we went (along with our R.A. Matt, Kyle, and James) to the Phoenix Club (in the union, where they have pool tables and some food stuff).  So, we hung out for a while there.  Later on, Kyle and I went to the Groovin' Grounds, which is this coffeehouse thing that they set up in a different part of the union and invite musicians to come and perform.  We stayed and listened to a guy with an acoustic guitar for a while.  Then we went to Andrew's apartment (that's Amanda from my dance teams' boyfriend) and watched a movie.  After that we went back to the dorms.  Later on in the night, third floor duct taped James to the wall!  We used an entire roll of duct tape, but it still didn't quite work.  It was kind of a waste of time, but oh well, it was fun!

Here's Matt, Kyle, and Matt (our R.A.)
showing off their awesome t-shirts!
Gotta love the faces!
On Saturday April 9th, I had a full day of dancing.  It was time for the Phoenix Pride Dance Team tryouts- when we'd had about one month off!  Tryouts started at 9 in the morning and i didn't get back to my dorm until 4:30, so it was a long day.  Our three captains (Nikki, Brodee, and Missy) taught us a routine that was made up of a jazz, pom, and funk section.  They were automatically on the team since they were named captains, but the rest of us had to try out again.  18 girls showed up and they took 7 girls.  That way, there are still some spots left open for Fall tryouts (when more freshmen will be around).  Tryouts make me so nervous, I wish that they just allowed returning squad members back onto the team without having to try out!  I was one of the last people to try out...but luckily, I made the team, so I will be back on the floor next year performing for Phoenix basketball.  I was so sore after tryouts...and for the remainder of the week!  I don't know what I did at tryouts, but it hurt to walk for a week after!
For Kyle's birthday, I agreed to go to a baseball game with him since he adores baseball.  We signed up at the Union to go with a group of people on a coach bus to Chicago to see a Cub's game at Wrigley Field.  It was a horribly cold day- it was 37` and snowing! I wore long underwear under my jeans, three pairs of socks in my shoes, a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, coat with a hood, gloves, and a blanket- and still practically froze!  I had hot chocolate to drink- but that only kept me warm for a couple of minutes.  One of the vendors was going through the stands yelling "Hot beer- get your hot beer"- I thought that was pretty funny!  Luckily the game moved pretty quickly- although the Cubs ended up losing in the 9th inning.  My favorite part of this trip was getting back on the nice warm coach bus!
On Thursday April 26th, the dance team was invited to the Chancellor's house for dinner.  The chancellor and his wife always invite teams that win national titles to dinner at their house.  The chancellor's wife, Cyndie, really likes the dance team, so I think that's one of the main reasons why we got invited.  She always watches us at the basketball games; I remember my first performance at the men's basketball game when I was standing in my first position and I saw Cyndie smiling and waving at us- she's very cute!  She even brought us Phoenix shaped sugar cookies at Christmas time.  She teaches ballet at UWGB, so she's very into dance.  It was fun to go to their house for dinner; they have a beautiful home and they are the nicest people.
For Nikki's birthday,
third floor (plus a few honorary members) went to Hooters for dinner....what can I even say about that?!
We also filled her car (and trunk) completely full of balloons and piled them on top of the car and drew some nice birthday pictures on the windows- she was really thrilled about getting to clean it all up!
There was a Phoenix Idol contest on campus that Megan and Tiffany entered, so Third floor went to support and watch them.  The show was unbelievably long since they started with 15 contestants, then went down to 5, then 3, then the final one- so that was a lot of songs, and they didn't even cut the songs like they do on American Idol- so the show lasted over 2 hours long!  Megan sang "Fallen" by Alicia Keys and Tiffany sang a Christina Aguilera song- but neither one of them made it past the first round.  It was fun to watch people though- some were certainly not afraid to make fools of themselves!
