R.A.M.S. Notebook
Responsibility And Management Skills
What's a R.A.M.S. notebook? R.A.M.S. stands for "Responsibility and Management Skills."  It is a 3-ring binder that contains EVERYTHING the students and you, the parents, need to keep up with what is going on at school.  No more wrinkled papers in the bottom of backpacks.  No more lost notes, newsletters or calendars.  No more searching the house to find paper to write me a note.  Everything is in one notebook!

Why is it important to have? The R.A.M.S. notebook helps students to establish good organizational skills which will benefit them throughout their school years.  It also keeps the lines of communication open between the home and the school and strengthens our partnership in the education of your child.

Where do I get one? I will provide them. If a R.A.M.S. Notebook is lost, there will be a fee of $4.00 to cover the cost of materials for a replacement.

The R.A.M.S. Notebook contains the sections listed below. Please look at all of the sections daily, especially the Parent/Teacher Communication section.

Important Stuff
This section contains any notes from school, notes from our Principal, school district, as well as classroom information, etc.

Money Pouch
Please use this pouch when sending any kind of payment (lunch money, book orders, PTA, yearbook, etc.) to school.  I ask that you put the check or money in an envelope with your child's name and what it is for written on the outside, then place it into the zippered pouch.

Calendar
A Gwinnett County school calendar with important dates is provided so it will be easy to locate.  A monthly homework calendar is also sent home each month.  This "homework" is not graded, but it does focus on important Kindergarten skills and helps establish the homework routine.

Homework
This section will contain any homework papers or reading logs we send home.  Reading to/with your child is probably the most important factor in predicting his or her reading success and we ask that you read together 15 minutes per day/night.   In addition, you will be asked to work on a family project each month.

Look What I Did!
This section contains work done by your child.   Please look over it and discuss it together.   Have your child select his or her best work to display on the refrigerator door!

Sticker Hall of Fame
Students are often rewarded with stickers.  This section will give them a place to display their rewards.  As you look over them, ask your child what they did to earn them.  It's a good way to start a conversation about their day at school!

Parent/Teacher Communication Pages
This part of the R.A.M.S. binder is used for notes between you and me. I will be writing notes to you in this notebook. Please check it daily and I will do the same to check for communications from you.  Also, use this section to send absentee excuses to school when your child is ill. If a doctor has seen your child, please send notification of that as well.  Notes about a change in transportation or if your child will be checking out early should also be written in this section.  This is where I will look for them. Please remind your child to tell me when there is a note in the notebook from you.  I'll try to check it regularly, but occasionally we will get busy and a note could go unread.

Behavior Card (Rear Pocket)
This form is used to document behavior and work habits. It will be sent home each Friday and must be signed and returned to school the following Monday.

This has been a brief description of our R.A.M.S. Notebook. If you have any questions please feel free to give me a call at 770-554-7050, write a note, or e-mail me at [email protected] . Our communication is very important. I'm looking forward to successful year together!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dominguez
