Danny

Okay guys, I wanted something new for the site, so I decided to ask Danny to write something funny for his section. After you read it, you'll see why we all love him so much. And I found it particularly appropriate with school looming so close.

Test Corrections

As we all know, there is often a great difference between what we think and what we say. Nowhere is there a more poignant example than test corrections. Anyone who has taken Algebra 1 knows that after we receive a test back, we need to explain why we got it wrong and then correct it. The following notes are actual test corrections I wrote. Under it, I've written in italics what I was really thinking.

#13. I made a conceptual error on this test. I forgot that before finishing the equation, I had to put the function in inverse form. I would then graph the function and use the data to plot my equation. The correct answer is f(x)=2x+14.

Inverse? Conceptual? What in the world? The reason I got this little device of yours wrong is because I didn't even know we had the test! I walked in and saw the test tents and tried memorizing 50 pages of notes. Forgot to graph the function? I drew a picture of a cow!

#27 This problem is wrong due to a careless error. I put down a four instead of a 2. I forgot to double the terms in the parantheses and this messed up my overall answer. The correct answer is 16.3

Hey! Whose Line Is It Anyway? is on! Man, I LOVE this show. Ooh! Robin Williams is on. He's hysterical. Aw, crap, I'm out of Fritos. I think we have oatmeal downstairs. That could be good.

#29 I got this answer incorrect because I forgot to check my work. Had I done this, I would have realized I put the wrong exponent in the second part of my equation. The correct answer is 62.

Damn it! No oatmeal! What is this stuff, pumpkin pie filling? It's not even Thanksgiving! Why do we have this? And there's nothing in the fridge but chutney and an old tomato. HAMPTON has good food at his house. I get preserves. Man!

#34 This problem is wrong because of a conceptual error. I didn't know how to plot the graph correctly, and as a result, the graph is backwards. My correct answer is graphed below. As you can see, its a little different from my first one.:-)

That's right, eat it up. Look at me, lightheartedly poking fun at myself. I even put a smiley, so it's cute. You know what I'm doing right now? Eating chutney on toast! And boy howdy is it good! OW! I stubbed my toe! This bites!

#46 This problem is wrong because I didn't write out the full equation in its correct form. The equation should have a -23 at the end. That would make my correct answer a 52.

Chick-ah! Chick-ah! Ow ow! Ohhhhhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.....
