| THE FRUSTRATORS, How Jason got into the Frustrators. How Jason Got In The Frustrators Written By: Jason Chandler The band got together in the early part of 1999, I guess. I'm not really sure how long Art and Terry were jamming with Mike before they talked to me about singing. But they asked be about singing in like early May I think. Art and Terry came by and we went out for an afternoon of karaoke. Somewhere in that day Terry approached me about singing with them. It had been a couple of years for me since my last band, and I was really looking to do something, but I had been thinking more along the lines of forming my own thing. But I thought, what the hell. And I gotta say, it is not my favorite thing to "audition". So when the night came of our first rehersal, I was all nervous. So I just made myself relax as much as possible, but that kind of thing always gets me too keyed up. Anyway, musically it all worked out pretty good. I think they had tried out a few other singers, or at least had talked to a few other guys who sing in some other bands. I think I was kind of a dark-horse candidate since Mike did not know me at all before that night. Questions and Answers From Jason 1. Where does each member of the band live? I live in San Francisco, Art and Terry and Mike all live in the Berkley area. 2. Where is your favorite place in the whole wide world? My favorite place in the whole wide world is probably this place called Stony Brook, that is this little Audubon wildlife sanctuary up the street from the house where i grew up in Norfolk, Massachusetts. I spent so many days there all through my life before i moved to CA. As a kid, as a wild teenager, etc. 3. Would you rather be rich and unhappy or poor and happy? I would definitely rather be poor and happy (like I am right now) 4. What kind of toothpaste do you use? Lately I use that crest in a pump. I also like mentadent in a pump. I pretty much would brush with peanut butter if it came in a pump. I just like pumps. 5. Who is your favorite band? My favorite band right now is the Donnas. They fucking kick ass. They play so tight, and their songs are funny and tough, and they are easy to look at. Actually my friend Robert has been dating one of them for a couple of months, and me and my friends are all like shaking our heads in disbelief. 6. What made you want to sing? I started singing in bands because no one else would do it. I just wanted to play music, I didn't care if it was the guitar, or the bass, or singing or whatever. A few years ago i decided to make singing more of my main thing so I actually took some voice lessons, and it really changed things for me. Like singing opera songs and stuff. There is so much more to it that i don't know and I'm kinda glad there is more for me to learn. 7. If you could meet anyone in the whole world, who would it be? One of two people... either Steven Hawking - a scientist, probably the smartest guy in the world. I got a few questions to ask him, or Natalie Portman - cuz I got a few things I'd like to say to her too...he he 8. How many bathrooms do you have in your house? one bathroom 9. Do you like to fish? I used to fish when i was a kid, but I wouldn't like it too much anymore i don't think. It just seems to me like i don't need to get up in the face of a little breathing guy with gills and kill him. I just don't want to spend my time getting cruel like that. I used to be a veggie and then a vegan, I'm not anymore, but I still need a real good reason to kill something. I dunno, maybe I'm a hypocrite. Maybe I'd even like it if I had the chance to do it. 10. What is the picture on your desktop of your computer? Today, my desktop is a screen grab of that little guy that I put at the end of my email. (for those of you that haven't seen it, it sucks to be you) 11. What is your favorite color? That's a tough one. One color? I guess it'd have to be red. Like fire engine red. 12. What is your favorite kind of ice cream? butter pecan 13. When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? I pretty much always wanted to be a scientist and an artist or like a philosopher or something. Like a cross between Michelangelo, Albert Einstein, and Karl Marx. I used to read a LOT as a kid. That's like all I did. As time went on (like when i was in Jr High) I really focused on wanting to be a scientist, like an astrophysicist... 14. What did you end up doing? I basically ended up working in advertising. I dropped out of college and started working as a graphic designer. These days I do retouching and illustration and design and some animation work for different advertising agencies. I designed the Frustrators stuff, like the logo, etc. And the Plus Ones stuff too. (My little brother did go on to be an astrophysicist. He might even go up the goddam spaceshuttle as a specialist! Do ya know how inferior that's gonna make me feel??) You might think that I would making tons of money...it's all pretty complicated but I have some longterm financial problems that I don't think you'd care much about. But for now, I'm probably the poorest guy who works at the places I work! 15. Would you rather shop at thrift stores or buy new clothes? I prefer thrift stores. Although it can be fun to buy something brand new. I've never been much of a shopper, but it has its moments. 16. What is your favorite movie? My fav movie is definitely Star Wars the Phantom Menace. I've only seen it 3 times and need to see it again! 17. What is your favorite book? My fav book, probably Animal Farm by George Orwell. |
