| How the frustrators got their name. By Jason Chandler We wanted to call ourselves "The Ropers". That is such a cool name. And for months we sort of hung with that name. But when I started checking stuff out, I found there was a band in D.C. on Velocity Girl's label already called The Ropers. So we were screwed. And we had to come up with something totally new, and we had some damn funny conversations in Mike's kitchen tossing names around. So we came up with "The Reagal Beagles". And they put that name on all the flyers for the Backyard Believers show we played. (There are probably a bunch of them still out there with the wrong name on them) Because sure enough we found out there was a punk band in Southern California already called that. So now we were frustrated... and there you have it. It was cool as we were checking further and further and finally realizing that one was not already taken. Because really, the Frustrators is such a perfect name for us. And you know, I gotta say, I don't think people realize how hard it is to name a band these days. ALL THE GOOD NAMES ARE TAKEN. I tell you, if a band was around in the 50's or 60's and put out any records, you still can't have the same name as them. And that means there are a LOT of bands you never heard of who are taking up all these good names, and bands today have to come up with some pretty odd names. I feel sorry for the kids who will be born in the next few years, when they get old enough to have bands, I swear to God, there won't be any names left at all They're gonna have to do lame shit like naming their bands with numbers in the name like signing up for AOL. |
