No Jake, Elaine said, with her head in her hands, sitting on the
floor in front of him. You dont understand how controlling and overprotective
he is.
He got up to answer the knock at the door. Thats probably your dad
now.
She stood up and sat on the bed, Damn it, I really dont want to deal
with him right now, she said under her breath.
Elaine? said her father, Bob. Elaine, are you in there? he knocked
on the door a second time. We really need to talk about this.
Sighing as she opened the door, she told her father he couldnt stop
her and Jake from moving to New York.
You cant move to New York, Bob said as he stepped into the
room. How can you just abandon me like your mother did?
Why are you being so mean about this? she yelled.
Im not being mean! Youre just leaving me! he said as he stormed out
of the room and slammed the door.
As she walked across the room to lie on the bed, Elaine told Jake how
she couldnt deal with her father. Hes always making me feel guilty about
something.
I know how your dad can be, he said. But eventually he will
understand that you need to live your own life.
I just think all of this would be a lot easier if he would re-marry.
As he engulfed her in a hug, Jake comforted her by saying that she
needed to detach herself from him and he would get the point.
It just sucks, she said as she let out a sigh. Im torn between the
two men I love with all my heart.
