Contrary to popular beleif, the Kimodans are not amphibious. These aquatic reptiles acquired lungs some centuries ago in their evolutionary process, replacing the need for gills. Their young still posess gill slits, but soon outgrow them.
Once a land dwelling species, these intelligent beings were forced to their watery homes when a massive 'war of territory' broke out on the Iloria Island in Pria-120. This war, between the Kimodans and the Namulians, was very savage and brutal. The Namulians, utilizing ealry versions of their wooden tools, used pointed staffs and other assortments of basic weapons to ward off the Kimodans. The Kimodans, being quadrupedal, were not as fit for combat as their opponents. Their weapons were far superior to that of the Namulians, but still wooden. The minerals they utilize now was not (and still isnt) available in the Iloria Islands. Losing the war and accepting defeat, the Kimodans agreed to a territorial treaty with the Namulian leader at the time, Giial. Giial was not kind to his enemies, as the treaty stated that his enemies must be banished to the coastline, never to return to the forests.
Over time, the Kimodans began to notice strange, shiny minerals that would wash upon shore. These minerals, known as metals, were found to be exceptionally useful in the creation of tools and shelter. Being the intelligent beings that they were, the Kimodans realized the source of these minerals.....the Ocean....
Seeking a better way of living, the Kimodans began diving into the oceans to fetch these minerals. Over time, they realized the benefit of living near deposits of these minerals, and began to build air-sealed structures near the underwater mountains that housed them. However, their steel structures could not have any holes, or water would surely get in. Oxygen was very limited as well. The Kimodans then began to experiment with the abundant sand, eventually developing glass. Utilizing this new, clear substance, and metals, the Kimodans built clear, sturdy structures so that light would be allowed in from the surface.
Tubes that stretched to the surface were used to let in oxygen, but are no longer in use. In the year Pria-350, Oxygen generators were developed, whcih were able to harvest oxygen from water.
