Location
IL MULINO is located in a small Umbrian near Deruta (famous for hand-painted pottery), the beautiful hill town of Todi, Assisi (famous for St. Francis), and Perugia with its well restored old city center.  The area is largely agricultural with some small manufacturing in some of the towns.  The view from IL MULINO is largely to the west and north, and includes many small towns in the valleys, as well as some hill towns and large villas.  To the north, Perugia can be seen, particularly at night when lights are on in the towns.

The villa is approximately 1.5-2 hours from Rome, Florence and Siena; about half an hour from Perugia and Assisi; and less than an hour from Orvieto.  Day trips to all of these sites are easy due to excellent roads and the location of IL MULINO.

In the area are many good restaurants, some of them being local pizza restaurants in the small towns nearby, and some of them being excellent gourmet ones.  There is a wide range to choose from in Todi and in Perugia.  Cards from many nearby eateries are kept in a file in IL MULINO.  The town of Deruta is particularly well known for hand-painted pottery, and we can recommend an excellent, friendly shop with a nice variety of patterns and styles.
