Internet Use Survey
How often and in what ways do you use the Internet in your other classes? Do you find articles, access databases, download graphics and multimedia files, or surf pages related to your topic of research?
Do you use the Net for other classes? If so, which are they? Describe the course and how you used the Net for whatever assignment or project. Be specific.
My major is Statistics and to get accurate figures we use several computer programs, such as SAS, Minitab, etc. Since we can��t do an interview every time to get information about the topics owing to the time limit and financial circumstance, we use internet to get the raw data. And of course it save an assistant��s trouble of grading.

Design of Experiment (DOE) :
DOE is a structured, organized method for determining the relationship between factors (Xs) affecting a process and the output of that process (Y).
In this class, the professor uploads the raw data on his website. Then students download them to do their assignments. And also there is Q&A board on which we can ask about the lessons we had, besides there is free-board for the students to communicate each other. And why the net is important for this class is that the weekly assignments and the final score for the tests will be posted on this bulletin board.
World Woman Thorough English :
In this class I had to write an essay about a Korean woman who is very sensational. I wanted to get information about U-Mille stir. This stir happened last year so it was quite latest news. Therefore, there wasn��t any published book or authorized opinion about the scandal. I searched the newspapers, but many of the articles were lost or deleted. I must had depressed if there have not been for the net. I accessed the internet discussion board and mailing lists and could find several thought about the stir. I think that this kind of class absolutely needs the net since the speediness is the most required. And we have to find the quotation said by a woman every week. Thorough the net I could read many words said by women over the world. I��m sure that it has broaden my mental vision in many ways.
How helpful was the Net? Was it more useful than if you had used conventional means, e.g., finding books and periodicals in the library?
Actually I don��t think that the science of bibliography is fully developed in Korea. I came across with many difficulties when I tried to look up the specific information. I put a certain keyword to get data, it gives me a sense of disappointment after all. So sometime it makes me give up doing the topic I intended at first. And of course I need lots of time to read the book to find the related information that I am looking for. And as every-body might have the same experience, sometimes in the research stage we had to change of our plan a bit owing to the lack of information.
On the other hand, there are lot of information on the net. So I can easily access them.
But I don��t want to say that Internet is always more useful that a library because, Internet based information sometimes don��t have their cite authorities. So it is not reliable. So I do both researches based on the Internet and printed books.
Would it help if core classes in your major, or general education classes at Ewha were online?
No! I don��t think so. Statistics deals with many numbers and formula so it is actually impossible to have a class just on online based. Of course, we need Computer program to analysis the data. However, it needs more between a teacher and students rather than a computer and students. And it is not easy to type the mathematical symbols. It might be helpful if the class uses online class as an addition, but it alone doesn��t assure the qualities and understands of the complex contents. And actually there are a few internet sites that deal with Statistics study.
Would you like to see other English or other language courses online? If so, what would they be?
Yes, of course. I��m interested in English and I want to increase my English skill through web sites as well. Since it is cheap (almost free) and I can access whenever I have an extra time. I found English thorough Internet class very useful, so I expect a new internet courses. Especially I am interested in Bible study. I think the Bibles in a book store don��t have sufficient historical backgrounds. Besides, they are usually in very tedious forms, And finally, they keep me away from reading Bible regularly. So I would like to see Biblical study online.
