The young woman on the subway looks flustered, confused, and worried as she stared off into her own little world. She carries a large tote bag full of papers still to be graded for her students at the elementary school. She clutches its strap and looks at her shoes. She wears many layers of clothing to keep out the cold of her native Quebec, and a coat that is many sizes too big. It hides her figure and dwarves her small, slight frame. She is so delicate, so feminine, maybe 5'3 or 5'4. The bright red scarf she wears is dulled, however, in comparison to her beautiful cascade of black waves/curls. She pushes them out of her eyes, tucks a lock behind her ears in an attempt to control the wild mane (although the man she doesn't see thinks it is beautiful when unaltered). She anxiously nibbles her soft full lips, naturally red and so expressive. Her skin is like... coffee. It looks smooth (and the man she doesn't see yearns to brush his cheek against hers) and she looks so exotic. As the light changes she looks half-Asian... now Italian... her mixed ancestry only makes her more alluring to the man. So beautiful.
Her eyes, big and wide, centers of black with fathomless depth, flit nervously as she scans the group of people accumulated on the subway. A young gay couple, a woman cuddling plastic dolls and talking to herself, a burlesque male in a gray bathrobe, a pretty black lady with several shopping bags. And a multitude of others. Her eyes skip over the man, unseeing, and then focus back on her sensible shoes. Schoolteacher shoes.
The man gets up from his seat and moves to her side, "accidentally" bumping her, and strikes up a conversation. Her voice is pleasant but cautious. She speaks, in French, so quickly... he doesn't listen to the words, only focusing on her lips. And later, before she gets off, he will ask her to dinner tomorrow night, and she will wear her trademark sensible outfit, but underneath she has on black lace undergarments. And she will let him see them and end up falling in love with this man. The man she doesn't see, even when he stands in front of her, even when he sings to her, even when he kisses her.
This story or whatever you'd call it is Most Viewed on Strange Minds. Oh yes. I've been told I should be proud, so yay me I suppose. The original is here.
