| 15. Can U Control Yo Hoe - (with Soopafly) : LT Hutton, a longtime producer wit Snoop, crafts one of the tightest beats I have heard in a while. This song is not for the weak of heart, as Snoop and Soopa are singing about checkin ya hoe. Obviously if ya conduct yourself like a lady then this song is not directed at you. Men need to be checked too and ladies if ya runnin your man like this song say then it is gonna be your new anthem. Alot of people do not like the singing that Snoop does but this fits the mood and the beat. Sick song and it is one of my all time Snoop favs. The lyrics will have you rolling. Vintage Snoop. 16. Signs - (featuring Charlie Wilson/Justin Timberlake) : Another Neptunes beat and Justin Timberlake on the chorus. I thought train wreck when I first heard it but the song it kinda funky. It's got that 70's vibe to it and Snoop handles the song pretty good. Might do some damage if it was a single but it has a heavy pop sound to it which really does not fit the album. 17. I'm Threw Witchu - (with Soopafly & Daz Dillinger) : Very similar to Can U Control Yo Hoe, this Warryn Campbell track is about the same subject. Snoop and Soopa are now threw wit the hoe and it is time to start steppin. The singin is hilarious and once again it is a fun track. Daz kills it at the end with his rants on the girl. Good to see him back on a Snoop album. 18. Pass It Pass It - Neptunes once again and this is for the weed smokers out there. This is one of the best weed songs in a while (I smoke hookahs so I have no idea about the weed). Snoop lyrics are on some quotable type shit and he kills the song. Tight beat also. 19. Girl I Like U - (with Nelly) : LT Hutton does the beat and I am not feeling this song at all. Skip it 20. No Thang On Me - (with Bootsy Collins): The outro done by Hi-Tek and the Snoopadelics. Snoop is singing once again and I am not feeling this one either. Bit of a downer to end the album. Alot of people have complained about Snoop's new style and him not working wit Dr. Dre. Dre really does not seem to have time for Snoop like in the past and Snoop is at the stage of his career where he wants to get out of the shadow. He has definitely accomplished that with the last 2 albums. While the style is a bit different to what we are used to, I can respect the direction he is going with the music. Snoop is 33 years old and he is maturing with the times. He is a businessman and a familyman. This album shows more growth than anything he has put out. But I like the fact that he can still keep it gangsta when he has to. Soopafly really impressed me with his beats and the vibe he put into the project. His production is very soulful so he really fit well wit it. The Neptunes did not over kill the album with their sound and they put in enough input to give it substance. Many highlights to the album and although it tailed off towards the end it is a solid album. Where to rank this album? It is a cross between Last Meal and Paid The Cost. When it is Rhythm, it is very melodic. When it is Gangsta, it is very gangsta. In that respect, it makes it a masterpiece because Snoop has mastered both and not given in to either like some artists do. Doggystyle fans will cry and bitch about it like EVERY SNOOP ALBUM SINCE 1993!!! GET OVER IT. SNOOP IS MAKING MUSIC FO GROWN MATURE FOLK!!! Definitely one of the better albums to drop in 2004. 8.5 OUT OF 10 |
