| Westside Connection- Terrorist Threats: Tha Gangsta, Killa, And Dope Dealer is back (WC, Mack 10, and Ice Cube)!!! After 7 years the long awaited 2nd album is here. Here is a 1 page review of the album. 1. Threat To The World, A (Intro): Intro that comes from the same guy that did the first one. Just letting yall know that the Connect gang is back in effect. 2. Call 911: Young Tre is on the beat and WSCG DESTROY this beat. Cube's lyrics are some of his sickest since the War disc. Mack 10 and WC come correct, but Cube sets the tone with his verse. 3. Potential Victims: Young Tre is 2 for 2 as he creates another banging beat (hell he helped resurrect Mack 10's career). I like how all 3 mc's tag team on the lyrics for about 4 bars. WC brings it the hardest on this one. 4. Gangsta Nation - (featuring Nate Dogg): The anthem! I have not heard a WEST COAST song bumped like this since "Next Episode". Fred Wreck supplies the hypnotic beat and Nate Dogg nails the hook. All 3 mc's come with it, especially Mack 10. Gotta love WSCG/Dogg Pound collabos. Absolutely love this song!!! BANANNAS!!!! 5. Get Ignit- This should definitely be the second single. Ron Feemster did the crazy beat. Ice Cube comes with a funny line: My own Grandma even call me a dummy/a ignorant little bastard always spending my money/I tell her/that's why ya ain't as fly as ya grandson/handsome wit a pocket full of ransom! I was rolling when I heard that. Mack and WC completly destroy this beat. Another banger. 6. Pimp The System - (featuring Butch Cassidy)- Pockets and Rashad Coles on the beat, Butch on the hook and the WSCG talk about pimping the music industry. Cool beat, but the song is just average to me. 7. Don't Get Outta Pocket - (featuring M-Mac): Young Tre has to be one of the hottest producers on the West. He kills this beat also and K-Mac joins WSCG in gang banging on this beat. Short song but definitely on point. 8. Izm- Midi Mafia on the beat and chorus. The beat is good, but here runs the small problem with this album and it is the hook. It is very annoying. The lyrics are banging, but the hook is weak. 9. So Many Rappers In Love- Pockets & Rashad Coles craft another sick beat and WSCG talk about all the love songs on the radio and where are the gangsta songs that used to be on the radio. Many people think it is about Ja Rule but I don't know. Could possibly be a single. 10. Lights Out - (featuring Knoc "Turn" Al): If you have Ghetto, Gutter & Gangsta, then you have heard this song. Cube takes shots at Jesse Jackson for his Barbershop comments and Samuel L Jackson for saying rappers can't act. Mack 10 and WC also bring some heat over this Damizza beat. Underground single that has been getting some airplay. 11. Bangin' At The Party - (featuring The Hood): WSC went old school on this getting Sir Jinx on the tight beat. The Hood, Mack 10's group all come correct with their short verses and as usual the WSCG ride this beat till the wheels fall off. 12. You Gotta Have Heart- Midi Mafia creates another banging beat, but once again their hooks are annoying. The lyrics are banging, especially Mack 10, but the hook should have been done by somebody else. Positive song for the most part. 13. Terrorist Threats- Big Tank makes a apocalyptic beat with screeching horns and once again WSCG bang on this beat. All of them come correct. Tight song. 14. Superstar (Double Murder=Double Platinum)- Megahertz closes out this cd with another crazy beat and once again the hook is weak. Ice Cube DESTROYS this song with his lyrics and by far this is his best lyrics on the album. Mack 10 and WC also come sick. Is this album better than "Bow Down"? No it isn't. The reason is because Bow Down was a political record about the injustice and bias that the east coast and radio has on west coast music. This is more of a party record, but it is still a pure west coast album. In a time where artists fill their album with big names producers that don't deliver, WSCG let young, hungry producers create some heatt for a change. Fred Wreck had the tightest beat with "Gangsta Nation" but Young Tre had some banging beats also. The only thing that was weak was some of the hooks but that did not take away from the songs. This album to me is just as crucial as the first, because other than Snoop, no west coast artist is getting love and this album has already gone GOLD in just a month off of Gangsta Nation alone. There are plenty of songs to choose from for multiple singles to make this album multi-platinum. Ice Cube has also established himself in my opinion as the King of the West Coast after his performance on this album. He always keeps it gangsta and he stands up for the coast with albums like this. Definitely one of the best albums of 2003 and easily the best WEST COAST ALBUM OF 2003!!! YEAHE YEAHE!!! 9.25 OUT OF 10 |
