| Scarface- The Fix: With this his 7th album of his career, Face has stepped away for the first time from Rap A Lot. This album is dropped on Def Jam South and J Prince's management label. Scarface is one of my favorite MCs of all time and he is definitely the King of Southern hip hop. Check out this 1 page review of his new album to see how he fares. Click on the song to hear a sample. 1. The Fix (Intro)- Mike Dean crafted this intro banger. Tight beat to start the album off with. 2. Safe- Nice bluesy track to start the album off. Face drops the cold lyrics as usual. 3. In Cold Blood- Sick beat by Kanye West and Face breaking down the crack game to a precise science. I love how Kanye blends in 2 different beats into the song. 4. Guess Who's Back - (featuring Jay-Z/Beanie Sigel)- Kanye West is once again on this beat and it almost sounds like it should be on Jay Z's album. All mc's come correct and it is a gem. 5. On My Block- Nashiem Myrick produces this banger. As many of you know this is the first single off of the album. This is probably my favorite song this year and Face the storyteller breaks down life on his block in Houston, TX. 6. Keep Me Down - T Mix on the boards as Scarface spits the street lyrics about nobody in the streets or the vocal booth will keep him out of the game. 7. What Can I Do? - (featuring Kelly Price)- Many people have complained about the R&B cuts on this album, but I think that they are still tight. Kelly Price provides the chorus and Face takes a "Mr. Scarface" rapping style on this emotional track. 8. In Between Us - (featuring Nas)- Mike Dean on the beat and Tanya Herron on the chorus. Nas and Face rip this track to shreds talking about backstabbing friends that we all encounter in life. The chorus is different, almost sounds like something Anne Lennox would sing but it is a very good song. 9. Someday - (featuring Faith Evans)- Face and the Neptunes? You better believe it. One of the better Neptunes beats I have heard in a while and Face reflects on God and his role in his life. 10. Sellout - Classic Scarface here as he is in a zone with his shit talking. Best believe he will back it up. Just listen to the song to see what I mean. 11. Heaven - (featuring Kelly Price)- Another one of those R&Bish tracks but it is a very good song about finding that special someone and starting a family. 12. I Ain't The One - (featuring W.C.)- Mike Dean on the boards and WC guests. A definite classic with a hard hitting bassline. Both rappers come harder than a Tyson left hook. 13. Fixed- Same Mike Dean beat as the intro with a harder guitar. Great outro. Many people have said that this album was made to cater to a broader fanbase. I do not think that is the case, but I think the different sound is due to Face working with producers that he has never worked with. Also Face is more calm on this album. It is not as sinister as "Last Of A Dying Breed" but it is more about Scarface on this one. The Source gave this album 5 mics and many believe that it has to do with the album being on Def Jam. Whatever the case, at first I did not think that this album was a classic compared to his other albums, but because of the new, fresh sound and the introspective lyrics make this album a... 10 OUT OF 10 |
