| DJ Quik- Under Tha Influence: Finally, another well crafted album from Quik. It's been since Safe & Sound (1995), that Quik has put together such a powerful, complete album. Truely a new kind of music, ahead of its time, that will no doubt become more appreciated with time. He manages 2 create a fresh style of music without abandoning the base that his fans originally fell in love with. Quik graces us with more lyrics, which are sharper than ever. In a time when so many artist are producing "what the people want 2 hear," it's refreshing 2 hear someone who's really willing 2 put their heart & soul into what they're doing because of their love 4 tha music. This man is truly an inspiration to hip hop in general. Of course a fresh sound he has been doing it for 12 years. He used some new guitar and bass players on this one "alot of the time he does it himself". Very heart touching lyrics and bass lines that make your mouth water up like heart burn. He is truly one of the greatest producers of all time. His beats are very complicated on this one. Many styles, I don't know why im writing this cause anyone who's picked up a quik album needs no explaining. Stand out tracks "50 Ways" about Mausberg R.I.P and where he stands in the business. "The Proem", "Put It On Me", and "Trouble" are also banging tracks. 'One on 1" bassy and a bueatiful hormonize by DeBarge and a smooth drum roll after each loop. When you hear DJ Quik's albums you see that he change his style from album to album.. its the same thing with his new album-under the influnce. Quik once again "reinvents himself" the new album sounds tight. Another great album to add to his legacy. If you like Quik & west coast music you got to have this album, also if you want to hear something new. 9 OUT OF 10 |
