Wayanad the land of paddy fields, is one of the beautiful places of Kerala. It is situated near the northern part of Kerala, closer to Calicut, Kannur and Thalasserry. Mysore, Ootty and and Muthumala wild sanctuary are nearby places.

This district is about 2200 feet above sea level and surrounded by a ring of forests. The climate here is cool and pleasant in summer. Recently this district is attracting tourists especially, those who love nature.

The important attractions are tea gardens of Vaithiri, Kuruva Islandin Kabany river, dash Lake, Banasura sagar dam- Padinjarethara. ancient Edackal caves, Pazassi memorial Mananthavady and Sultan battery. Kabany river, a tributary of Kavery river originates from Wayanad district.

The population is a mixture of Hindus, Christians, Muslims and Important native tribal groups like Kurichiyas and Panias. Kurichiyas are the off springs of Nairs (who married local Kannada girls) who were brought here by Pazassi Raja to fight against Tippu.

Paddy fields and tea gardens of Wayanad
In 1950's and 60's many Christian farmers from Travancore migrated to Wayanad in search of greener pastures. In those time the climate here was not so pleasant and they struggled against many odds to develop this area into a fertile pleasant place as you find today.
During theearly part of 1960s, Shri I.J.Korah Illipparambil, son of Joseph.I.C, Alappad, Thekkekkara migrated to Kottathara in south Wayanad and settled with family here. Later in 1980 he shifted his base ot Alattil in North wayanad. He successfully tried different crops like coffee, pepper, rubber and cardamom in this area. He died in the year 1986. His eldest son is a popular advocate in Mananthavady and second son is Fr. Chacko Illipparambil, presently the manager of CMI school at Gudallur. Other children are well established in farming at Alattil.
In the latter part of 1960's shri Joseph Illipparambil(Thikkariyoor, Kothamangalam) and Shri Xavier Illipparambil(Kavalangad, Kothamangalam) came to N. Wayand and bought land from Kuttanad estates to pursue their dreams in farming. Later Xavier sold this land to his elder brother Chacko Illipparampil and Joseph sold the land to his brother in law Thomas sir(Mannanam). Shri chacko Illipparampil experimented with different newer verities in crops like, lemon grass, coconut, pepper, coffee, ginger, tea and cashew nut. He is well settled with family by the side of the beautiful river, Kabany. He is active in public life here and served as Panchayath member here.His youngest son is teacher at the local high school. Other sons are at Mumbai and England with family.
