Entry for September 30, 2008
It's been an interesting time since the new Voyager model has been released to the Dealers at the Kawasaki Dealers Convention. Lot of talk on the American Voyager Association Forum about it being a Harley Clone. They took the 2000 cc Vulcan motor platform, downsized it and refined it into a 1700cc motor resulting in a single overhead cam engine with 4 valves per cylinder and after they had gotten most of those refinements made they gave it belt drive with 5th and 6th gears being overdrive. According to Kawasaki, they created this Voyager to meet the sales demographics they needed to make it a successful model. They used this new powerplant to create the new Nomad, the Classic LT, and the Classic. Most of the diehard Voyager XII owners were looking for another in-line four, possibly the 1400 used in the Concours. I can't afford to get a new bike, but I think it is a beautiful one. If you follow the link below, you can look at the new 1700 family.
