Essay Question : Were the Korea global power of that age (stronger than Europe then, at the turn f the century); would Korea have treated the Congo differently in the same way or differently?
Korea was never poweful nation since the downfall of Goguerya, ancient empire that once extended even to Russia and center of China. However, if Korea was strongest nation, and had a chance to rule Congo, many interesting things might have happened. However, I believe Koreans would have no better than Europian on treating natives.
When Koreans were powerful as Europeans, Koreans would have treated natives of Congo badly because Koreans would have believed natives of Congo inferior. Through out Korean history, Korean people considered every nation except China as nations of barbarians because of cultural differences. People understanding cultural differences were very rare in Korea around that time. Im pretty sure that Koreans would have considered natives of Congo as their inferior and treated them badly.
Looking at the ways Koreans treat people from poor countries, we can guess that Koreans wouldnt have done better then Europeans. Today, within Korean society, women from Vietnam are sold to Koreans who failed to meet Korean women they failed to marry. Research that studied their marriage life showed that most of Vietnamese women are being mistreated by their husbands and are living very miserable lives. Also, many colored people within Korea, usually workers that came from poor Asian nations, complain that they are being mistreated within Korean society because of their skin color.
If Korea was the superpower of the world around the time Europeans conquered Congo and mistreated natives, I believe that Koreans wouldnt have done better than Europeans because Koreans around that time considered people from other nations except China all barbarians and many Koreans are racists. However, I believe even Korea was superpower; Congo wouldnt have never been mistreated because Korea wouldnt even have tried to find Congo. Like many Asian nations, Korean people had very bad habit of not liking travel and adventure like Europeans.
