Mock Trial-Character Sketch
My name is Piggy and I am a British boy and both my mother and father died. I live with my auntie who is very helpful and gives me advice that I always follow. I once said to Ralph, "My auntie told me not to run, on account of my asthma" (9). This shows how I always refer back to my auntie’s advice. She used to own a candy store and I would get all the candies I wanted.
I admit I am overweight; that is why people call me Piggy, despite the fact that I hate that name. I do not care what people call me, except for Piggy, however everyone still chooses to call me that anyway. I wear glasses and without them I would not be able to see. I have horrible asthma which prevents me from doing other activities such as swimming and running.
I have several positive strengths such as being a caring person. I am the only biggun on the island who took care of the littluns. For example when the kid with the birthmark was lost and killed by the forest fire, I was the only one who even noticed he was missing. Yes, I was put in charge to know the names of all the littluns, however I was the only one who cared enough to actually take on this job and be responsible and baby-sit for the littluns.
I am also extremely cautious and I always want to do the right thing. I think things through logically and slowly instead of jumping to any conclusions before I know if they are true or not. I am organized and I like to keep things as what’s what. I announced to all the boys on the island, " How can you expect to be rescued if you don’t put first things first and act proper" (45). This shows my ability to take charge in an attempt to prove my point and get things done. When Jack stole my glasses I prepared what I was going to say to Jack to Ralph and Sam‘n’eric, " Look, I’m goin’ to say you’re stronger than I am and you haven’t got asthma…But I don’t ask for my glasses back, not as a favor. I don’t ask you to be a sport, I’ll say, not because you’re strong, because what’s right’s right. Give me my glasses, I’m going to say- you got to" (171). This portrays my determination of how I will not back down unless I get what I want.
Although determination is a good trait, it may also be portrayed as one of my weaknesses. It causes people to dislike me and treat me poorly and talk to me with no respect. For example Jack once said to me, "Who cares what you believe- Fatty" (90). This shows Jacks hatred towards me. The quote from p. 171 also shows that I can also admit to others that I am weak by saying I am not as strong as them and I have asthma. This displays the courage and strength I have towards people who are bigger and stronger then I am. I told Ralph with a touch of pride, "That’s right. Can’t catch my breath. I was the only boy in our school what had asthma." "And I have been wearing specs since I was three" (9).
Overall, as you can see without trying to sound conceded, I consider myself to be organized, determined, and intelligent. Yes, I might have asthma and not be the strongest person, but this does not stop me from standing up for something I believe in. If I want something, I will do whatever it takes to achieve my goal. I truly love my auntie and I am thankful for all her advice. I believe I am an overall nice and caring person.
