Ulqin is located south of Adriadic coast in Monte Negro in northern part of Albania where the river Bojana end its journey to Adriatic sea. The city shears along the sea in the shape of a  bow and settles in an isle of  a triangle form, with the Bojana River from two sides and the Adriatic Sea from third corner by covering an area of 260km. The population of Ulqin is near 30 000 inhabitants. The Albanians  constitute 87.2% of entire population. The main economical muscle of Ulqin is tourism. The sandy beaches and very worm weather on the coast of Adriatic make Ulqin very attractive and lovely destination.  During the summer, more than 150 000 Albanians spend their vacation in Ulqin. The city has two beaches, the small and the big beach. The Small Beach is 360m long sandy carpet with capacity of 2500 people. Beneath the Old Ulqin at the  end of the small beach, the port of  Ulcinj is located and well managed. The Old Town somehow survived many earthquakes. There are restaurants, sport bars, cafes, and hotels.  The  Big beach with floury sand extends 13 km with capacity of 12000 people. Most of the tourists find a terrific spot on the sand of the big beach.
Ulqin is considered among the oldest towns in Adriatic coast. It is believed that the city of Ulqin is 3000 years old. In ancient time, Ulqin was known as Colchinium. Latter on the maps appeared under the name of Olcinum. Near by was another town called Sphack an ancient town that is known as a ghost town even today. According to Ceaser and ancient Rome, Colchinium was populated by barbaric Illyrian.
The Illyrian pirates were building their large and strong sailing ships in Colchinium. In ancient time, Colchinium was a port that handled more than 200 ships. There are many traces of beautiful stone constructions that symbolize the Illyricum civilization. Some ancient palaces are well-preserved ornaments and remind us of the ancient Illyrian activities. One of those remains are the Cyclopean walls that were mentioned in the  poem of Appollonius of Rhodos, and the Cyclopean palace was represented as  Colchiniums palace. Based on the writings left behind the ancient Hellenic and Roman writers, Ulqin was a wealthy municipality with its own government.
The municipality of Ulqin survived many earthquakes and, there were not real investments especially by the communist Yugoslavia. The earthquake in the 70's and 80's left many houses destroyed and damaged. The people of ulqin non slavic people had to build their houses. The hotels were build by the money invested from the citizens and the earning of the municipality form tourism. There was no direct serious investments from ex Yugoslavia. The port was reduced and it can not handle large ships due to technical capabilities of the port. Uliqin remains the old silver coin of Adriatic  reminding everyone the Illyricum civilization and ancient life.
