| I had been looking for a particular book for a while, and being short of cash...always...I decided to visit my local library. I thought the book, being a best seller, would be easy to find. I was mistaken. I went up to the computer near the front, chose the "title" option, and wrote the few words i could remember in it. 0 results. Okay, super. I just have to go to the best seller website I found it on to begin with. Open up Internet Explorer. Access denied. Super. Go to one of the internet computers in the back. Access denied. Super. Ask one of the ten librarians for help. They're all busy. Super. At this point I'm pretty freaking frustrated with the library. Now, maybe I just suck at Libraries, or maybe they're wayyy over protective of their books. Lets compare the security measures of, say, the bookstore next door, with the library. Keeping in mind that the books next door are new, I have succesfully accidentally walked out of the bookstore with an unpaid for item without any reminder whatsoever. At the library, where the books are old as shit, smell funny, look like crap, and have the street value of a Backstreet Boys cd, a sophisticated alarm sounds if you so much as approach the door with a book that hasnt been checked out. Forget using their computers unless you have passed their extensive background check. Also, if you want to check out a book you absolutely have to have residence in that city or town or whatever. so you can forget reading for at least 6 months after you move. Because God forbid you return the book to another library and have them ship it to the right library for 32 cents. I never did end up getting that book. Not because I couldn't find it, but because i didn't care anymore. Screw it. |
