Paradox
(Fade II)
Their two roads met today after a very long time. The changing winds had kept them far apart and forever changed their lives. Yet somehow their eyes locked with the exact same magical essence they always had. Some things never change, but in this case everything had. They were worlds apart now, but their connection refused to fade away. The memory of him left in her was everything but vague.
He drove up to her house and came out of his white rental car. He walked up to her and held her tightly as he saw her for the first time in over a year. She could listen to his heartbeat and touch the man she once fell in love with. He delicately held her tightly to his chest and smelled the celestial essence of her soft perfume. The whispers that escaped his parted lips warmly caressed her heart. “I’m glad that I came. I missed you.” She smiled and then went to greet her other friends.
They expected to be together the next time they met, no boundaries; no obstacles. Yet they both continued on with their lives…moved on. They were very successful at this. They managed to live without each other and be good friends. This was simple for so long because the distance maintained them in their place. Yet they had no idea what to expect the moment each other’s presence was imprinted. She knew better this time in order to notice details. All her senses were heightened and her defenses secured her fortress once again. She felt the warmth in his touch ten times deeper than before. She noticed the scars that were a reminder of all the horrible things his mother had done. Yet they all constructed the man he became, and she was grateful for this.
She wasn’t alone anymore; she had found someone she loved. He was also moving on with some girl that seemed to make him happy. They both hid their jealousy and acted as you would expect. So they couldn’t be together, not this time. On top of everything he was going to leave again, like he always did. He always left. This time she couldn’t be so close to him, or caress him the way she found so naturally. She had to be concerned with everything she did and said. Feelings were jeopardized and wrong assumptions could have been made. She didn’t give in into the chemicals that flew in the air. There was a certain level of respect among them, yet the awkwardness left with the smiles and good moments they shared.
When it was time to say goodbye the awkwardness set in. It was the perfect moment for a wonderful kiss. Yet that would turn back time to a hurtful place and destroy too many accomplishments. It was difficult, but it was only another chapter in the tales of these lovers. Once again nothing had happened. Once again he left not knowing when he would be back or how things would change.
