World Series Recap

Michigan Wolverines take series in 5

It’s almost unfair. Almost. What’s unfair is that Ed Alexander tossed a 98 MPH fastball with an 0-1 count, and put a breaking ball in the dirt to send the batting title winner, Jim Cunningham, to the bench five times in two games. Five times in two games! He now instructs Nestor Silvestri on his timing and release point. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t make his mark during World Series I.

Game 1

Game 1 was a pitcher's dual… that is until the third inning when Kansas hurler Orestes Ward gave up a gopher ball to the Italian Stallion Monteleone. Michigan went up by three at that point, they did not look back from there. Alexander went through eight innings of work without allowing a run, and only handing over five hits. He handed the ball over to Bayless who finished Alexander's business. MVP: Ed Alexander

Game 2

Game 2 was not the luxury that Michigan had grown accustomed to however Sacks and his team came through. Due to technical difficulties with the box score, information is unavailable.

Game 3

Kansas took this one 3-2 despite a pair of home-runs from Jackson and Moulton in the 6th inning. Taylor and Graham were perfect in 3.1 innings of relief for the Jayhawks. MVP: Javier Santry

Game 4

Man, it's just a different team with Ed Alexander on the mound. Although he gave up a home run to Kansas' Hernstein, he pitched a shutout for his last career 6 innings of work. MVP: Ed Alexander

Game 5

Orestes Ward gave up 5 runs in three innings. Michigan came back from a 3-1 deficit and won this contest 7-3. This clinched the World Series for Michigan MVP: Bobby East
