Part Four
Stalking in through the back he slammed the door as hard as he could making it break the splinters in the frame. Running his hands through his hair quickly he tried to shake the confusion and frustration out of his body. Something was definitely wrong and he had no idea what it was or how to stop it, all he knew was that he didn’t like it. Sitting down in the black leather chair he tapped his fingers on the arm rest feverishly as if by tapping out this little beat answers would appear miraculously in front of him. Unfortunately none did. Feeling an arm slide down his chest he let his finger run down it gently making her laugh. Walking around the chair she sat down on his lap with her legs hanging over the side of the chair. Kissing him straight away he ran his fingers through her hair and then played with the ends.
“Hey.” She said simply before kissing him again. “How was school?” She asked as she nuzzled his neck. Most of his kind would be worried about this but he knew her too well, she would never bite him. Well, unless he asked her to.
“Utterly mind numbingly crap to put it bluntly. I feel like I’m getting dumber by being there.” Sitting there letting himself be kissed and touched by her he felt guilt start to form inside him. Guilt, what was something he hadn’t felt in a while. Then again he didn’t tend to feel anything apart from lust and boredom anyway.
“Then stop going there.”
“If I stop going there I wont get my diploma.” Christian took her hand and pushed his own against it, it was surprising how small her hands were. She could easily crush someone’s windpipe with one hand and yet she didn’t look as if she could snap a flower.
“Why are you so obsessed with this diploma thing? You don’t need it! It’s not as if you’re going to get a job!” She moved away from his neck and sat there looking straight into his eyes. Most people found it unnerving under her gaze but he had gotten used to it now.
“Jane don’t start again. Just because you don‘t go to school very often doesn‘t mean I‘m not going to. I know I’m not going to get a job but I just want to know that I’m as good as humans intellectually. I know I can beat them at everything else I just need to know I have more brainpower than them as well.”
“That’s stupid! We’re higher up on the food chain, who cares if they’re smarter?” Christian sighed, this was always something which he had never been able to get through to her. Ever since he had seen the films about how humans had over come vampires he had wanted to know that he was better than them. In all the films the humans had always won because of brain power, but if he had their intelligence then he wouldn’t have to worry.
“Yeah I guess you’re right.” He half smiled at her and pulled her closer. “Hey you know you did the whole witchy thing? Well I think someone has put a spell on me… it’s very intense and I don’t like it.”
“You know I’m not good with the whole spell thing. I just picked up a few things whilst I lived with some witches. Do you remember that girl… what was her name… Darla! She couldn’t even tell I was one of her kind. How pathetic!” Jane started to laugh at the girls stupidity. What sort of a vampire couldn’t tell a vampire from a witch?
“I know she keeps trying to read my mind. Anyway enough about her. Have you ever heard of a spell which makes a sort of electric shock go through your body and make explosions in your mind? It isn’t painful it’s actually really nice but… it’s just so weird and intense.” Whilst Christian was talking he forgot that he was actually speaking to his girlfriend about these weird feelings he had been having. He started to feel a smaller version of them just by thinking of the girl who had brought them on him. He knew she was a witch, and not just any witch either, she was in the line of the crones but he didn’t think she had set this spell on him… she had looked just as shocked and frightened as he had felt…
“What made these feelings come?” Jane asked looking worried. How could he tell her that he got these feelings just by touching a girls hand? He couldn’t get her upset like that, last time she had thought he was cheating on her she had decapitated the shape shifter behind the bar of a club he used to go to. It wasn’t a pretty sight…
“I don’t know… they just came and it was weird.”
“Sorry I don’t have a clue. Oh I have news! Did you know the crones grand daughter is here? I hear she’s quite the rebel, that’s whys he has been sent here. Should be interesting, do you want to go and see what she’s like? Maybe she’ll give us a sample!” Jane rang her tongue along the delicate points of the extra teeth which had formed in her mouth.
“No! We can’t!” Christian said immediately. “I mean… if we go over there straight away then we’ll look eager and we’re not eager. How about we just go for something to eat later.” There was no way he could go and see Kirsten with Jane there. If Jane saw him being as nervous and dithering as he had been in the magic shop earlier then she would know something was up. Plus even though he didn’t think she was working magic on him directly he knew she was a part of it, why else had he found himself walking into that shop for no real reason? He knew something big was happening to them but he had no idea what it was. It was times like these that he wished he had paid attention to his father’s history lessons. His father had often said that one day he would need to know his heritage, at the time Christian had laughed and said that he would rather go play kick ball. Now as he found himself wondering what Kirsten was doing he wished he had paid attention.
“Well okay then you’re right. When we go out can we get a guy this time? I feel strange sucking on a girls neck…” Jane said showing her distaste clearly on her face.
“Do you think I like doing it with a guy? How about we just get our own, it’s probably safer that way anyway. We were taking too much of them anyway.” Jane kissed his cheek quickly before climbing off his lap and going to grab her coat.
“I love the way you’re always thinking of things like that. I would never have thought of how much blood we were taking! All I know is that when I’m hungry I drink till I’m full!” Grinning at him she headed for the door.
“Hang on where are you going?” Christian asked as he grabbed hold of her arm.
“I’m going to go and see my parents. I want to see if my brother has come over yet.”
“Okay have a nice time babe.” As Christian turned away he felt her fist smash with his cheekbone. “Hey! What was that for?”
“You know I don’t like being called babe.” She said simply and then walked out. Christian touched his cheek and found that the pain had already gone. Still rubbing it as he walked into the shower he thought about all of the times he and Jane had hit him each other. So many times they had beaten each other until neither could walk just because they didn’t agree on what they wanted to watch on television. That was a love that couldn’t be broken, they had such passion and lust for each other that they stuck together through thick and thin. He loved her more than anything or anyone in the world and yet now he couldn’t stop thinking about going back to the magic shop…
