Part Two.
Sun shone through the grey clouds making the
dreary morning she had been having seem less terrible than what she had first
thought. The sun caught the metal benches making it sparkle in front of her,
sitting on the closest empty bench she pulled her bag off of her back and
rifled through it until she found her lunch. So far she had not spoken to
anyone, let alone made a new friend. Her first class had consisted of the
female member of the class glaring at her intently whilst she tried to work on
a new melody. Classic civilisation had been fine in terms of her knowing the
material, but as before the female members of the class were glaring at her.
Luckily biology was an entire boys class so there was no glaring, but there was
no one to talk to either. Now as she sat there alone slowly eating her fruit
salad she couldn’t help but lose her positive attitude towards public human
school. Why were all of the girls being nasty to her and why wouldn’t any of
the boys talk to her? Was she really that repulsive or horrible that no one
wanted anything to do with her? Interrupting her insecure thoughts she felt
someone tap her shoulder. Turning around she saw a tall blonde girl with
startling violet eyes smiling at her whilst holding a note pad with a black Ilex
drawn onto it. Black Ilex were the sign of the lamia, taking the notepad out of
the girls hand she quickly drew a rough sketch of a black Nerine showing that
she was from an old family of witches.
“Should I say merry meet or are you fine with
just hello?” The girl said as she looked at the drawing Kirsten had just handed
her.
“Hello will be fine. So you’re a vampire?”
Kirsten asked. Although she was glad there was someone from the night world
here she was hoping it would be a witch… vampires tended to be moody and she
was always worried that they were looking at her neck.
“Yeah I’m a vampire. I was actually hoping
you would be on too but obviously not. I’m Darla by the way.” The tall girl
smiled flashing her white teeth at Kirsten. Obviously she didn’t have her fangs
out now but that one gesture made fear seize through Kirsten’s heart. Darla…
she had heard about her before, she was vicious and didn’t usually play by the
vampire rules. Darla smiled at Kirsten as she sat in front of her on the bench.
“So you’ve heard of me then.” Darla grinned.
“Uh…yes I have. Not a very good reputation
you have is it. Is it true you went to a blood feast?” Kirsten asked in partly
shock, awe and disgust. A blood feast was when you drank all of the blood out
of a person so that you take on their strength. This was forbidden in the night
world…
“Yes it is true. Brilliant party as well! So
lets see if you have a reputation. What’s your name?” Kirsten shifted
uncomfortably, she wasn’t sure if she wanted Darla to know who she was.
“My name is Kirsten.” A wave of recognition
washed over Darla’s face as the smile faded away into awe.
“You’re Kirsten? Wow this is almost an honour
to be near you. You’re in the line of crones aren’t you?”
“My grandmother is the crone yes. But I doubt
I will be a crone as I seem to be the black sheep of the family at the moment.
They don’t like the fact that I’m at a public school and that I don’t wear my
gowns and skirts.” Kirsten admitted. She had no idea why she was opening up to
this girl as she was infamous for being cold hearted and blood thirsty but she
was the only one who had spoken to her all day and the loneliness of sitting on
her own was overcoming the fear.
“See that’s why being a vampire is so much
better than being a witch. No silly traditions or costumes… just fun.” Darla
shook her blonde hair out of the clip she had it in so that it was all around
her face making her look even more beautiful than she was at first.
“Okay I have two questions, how did you know
I was a night person and two are there any more of us around here?” Kirsten had
always found it hard to distinguish night people from humans as it was their
job to keep under cover. Unless they had their flower on a pin or a t shirt
then she wouldn’t have a clue.
“Well I knew you were a night person because
look at you! You’re stunning! No human can look as good we can and you walk
like a night person. Predatory style. That’s why most of the girls will hate
you, because they see how hot you are and know their boyfriends will want you.
Don’t take it to heart it’s just their insecurity.” Darla paused for a moment
as she examined her long red nails and then continued. “There are more of us
here but they’re all really sad! There are two vampires in senior year and one
witch but she’s hardly ever in school. Then there are four vampires scattered
around the other years, two shape shifters and one old soul in freshman year.
That’s it although there is one guy who I’m not too sure of.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well there’s this guy in senior year and I’m
positive he’s a night person but whenever I try and call him out he looks at me
as if I’m crazy. He looks like a vampire but his name is off…” Darla seemed to
drift off into her own confusion at this point leaving Kirsten just sitting
there wondering what to say. She knew Darla would never do anything to hurt her
but she didn’t want to take any chances.
“So who is he? Why don’t you just read his
mind? I hear you’re a strong telepath.” Kirsten said trying to draw Darla back
into the real world.
“I have tried but his mind has all these
mirrors and shields it’s weird. When I get in there I feel as if I’m in the
mirror house at the fair, and there’s all this smoke… it’s too hard to get in.
That’s why I thought he was a vampire because shape shifters can’t do that at
all and witches aren’t that good at it.”
“So who is he? Is he here?”
“No… he doesn’t eat lunch outside… the only
time I’ve ever seen him eat was in the music room. He keeps to himself and yet
seems to be the most popular guy around.”
“What does he look like?” Kirsten asked. If
he was a witch and was someone important then it was likely she would know him.
Although she had never had a very good memory. It was actually very unlikely
that this boy Darla was talking about was a witch because not many boys made it
into teen years, something about them just wasn’t strong enough to make it.
“Are you any good at telepathy?” Darla asked.
Kirsten nodded. It was unusual for witches to be any good at telepathy but
Kirsten had thought it would be useful to have so she had worked every night
for two years trying to improve it so now she was probably a better telepath
than most vampires.
“Well then I’ll show you him.” Darla touched
her chin and turned her head so that she was looking directly looking into her
eyes. Kirsten stared deep into the violet until she saw a face forming in her
head. Blonde hair…quite tall person…green eyes….Christian. Kirsten broke her
gaze away from Darla’s as she took in who it was. Darla looked at her strangely
for a moment and then looked away.
“So is he a witch?” Darla asked not seeming
interested anymore.
“No… not a witch I don’t think he’s a night
person at all. I think he’s just a very good looking human.”
“Maybe… anyway why are you here? Please tell
me you’re not looking for the wild power. That’s the biggest load of crap I
have heard.” Darla pushed her hair out of her face and licked her lips. “God
I’m so hungry!” She cried out. Wanting to change the topic of the conversation
away from Darla’s hunger Kirsten went back to what she had said earlier.
“What’s a wild power?”
“A wild power is apparently a really powerful
force which will fight in like five years time or something. There’s four of
them and they’re supposed to fight the battle between good and evil. That’s why
lots of people are here at the moment because it is said that the wild power is
here.”
“Why would people want to find them?” Kirsten
asked sounding interested. This was something big, she was surprised her
grandmother didn’t know about it.
“Because if the bad night people get even one
of them then darkness will fall over the land and humans will be kept as
animals and will be forced to live in the shadows or something like that.
Witches want to get the wild powers so that the wild powers can be on the good
side so that there is still a balance in the world. It really is a big coup in
the night world hierarchy. I can’t believe you never heard of it.”
“I’ve never even heard it mentioned. Either
my grandmother is keeping things from me or she doesn’t know.”
“Believe me she knows.” Darla said smiling.
Hunger still panged inside her but she was enjoying the look of amazement that
was developing over Kirsten’s face. It was an understatement to say she was
beautiful. With the long straight brown hair with gold running through it and
those bright green eyes her beauty was startling. No wonder so many girls in
the school had taken an immediate dislike to her.
“Why do you say that?” Kirsten asked.
“Look the bells going to go and I have to get
over to metal shop… we’ll talk soon…” Darla said as she got off the bench and
started to walk away.
“No you will tell me now!” Kirsten shouted
and in her head cast a small spell to make Darla stop where she was. She saw
the shock on Darla’s face as she found she couldn’t move. Walking slowly over
to her Kirsten grinned.
“I should so bite you right now.”
“But you wont. So tell me, why would my
grandmother definitely know?” Darla looked around for a moment and then leaned
in dangerously close to her neck and whispered.
“Because it’s going to be the end of the
world…”
~Hey it’s me Taz, I hope you are liking this
fic! I forgot to mention in the first part of this fic is that this fic is
based on a set of books that I loved so much that I had to try my hand at them!
I have sent this fic (completed) to someone who has read the books and she says
it was totally different so I’m not copying! Also this is going to be part of a
quintet which is basically just a fic with five parts! Although I haven’t
written the other four parts yet… oh well! Hope you liked the chappy! Take
Care! Taz~
