INVERSE OF A FUNCTION

Example:  Find the inverse of   f (x) = x² + 2

There are two steps to find the inverse:

Step 1:  Solve the equation for x in terms of y

y = x² + 2

x² = y - 2

Step 2:  Then interchange x and y

First graph the original function.  To graph the inverse of the function, reflect the graph in the line y = x

Domain of f (x) is the range of f ^-1(x).

the range of f ^-1(x) is the domain of f (x).
