The refresher course, in short, intends to:

Ø       Update participants on the current trends and challenges of urban sustainable development context: the urbanisation – environmental – health – poverty dynamics;

Ø       Sharing of experiences by participants on the challenges of strategy development and its implementation;

Ø       Update participants and introduce new approaches, methods and tools for developing a sustainable city strategy;

Ø       Critically look with the participants at the international programmes mentioned above and their opportunities and challenges with concern to strategy development and policy developments for sustainable cities;

Ø       Identify transboundary environmental issues, which need and can be regionally addressed.

Participants should have:

1.        Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolian or Thai nationality

2.        Completed a course at IHS or at another Dutch Institute with NFP scholarship before the May 2005

3.        The relevant professional background (see above)

4.        Good motivation and relevance for this refresher course
