Things Every MLP Collector Should Know:
On this page are things that I believe all new My Little Pony Collectors should know.  if you are interested in collecting my little ponies, then read this.  As you go through this page I will include vocabulary that every collector should be familiar with.  This vocabulary is very commonly used in sales, trades and auctions, so you need to learn it.  All vocab. is in red and in italics.

First off, you need to know what exactly makes a toy pony, a my little pony.  There are MANY imitation my little ponies.  These are what collectors call "
fakies".  There are toy ponies that sometimes can look EXACTLY like an authentic my little pony, but you can detirime wether it is fake or not by a few simple rules:

     * Real
MLP are made by Hasbro, and always (except on the very rare occasion) have Hasbro written on one of there hooves.

     * Real
MLP have certain characteristics that other ponies usually don't have.  If you are looking for a certain pony, try going to Dream Valley and find that pony.  You will allmost always find a picture there, and that way you can compare.

Second, you need to determine what it is YOU are looking for in an
MLP.  It is your personal choice as to wether you want to collect your ponies MOC/MIB/MIP or if you could care less how your pony loks and will love them anyway.  It is really personal preferance, so here are a few things to keep in mind:

     * If you are planning on selling your
MLP, then it only makes sense to collect MOC/MIB/MIP ponies.

     * If you are collecting ponies for yourself to enjoy, than you may not care how dirty your pony is.

Some
MLP collectors don't collect mint ponies, but have certain "rules" they use to determine wether or not a pony will become a part of their collection.  For example, some collectors want there ponies to come with perfect hair, while others seek out ponies with missing hairplugs just so they can "fix" them.  So, in the end, it is up to you, but keep in mind that most ponies won't be perfect, as they were most likey a childs toy, but there are many ways to bring out their full potential (see my Cleaning/Restoring Section).
