NIAD stands for National Iguana Awareness Day. This organization is manned completely by volunteers throughout the United States as well as around the world. We are dedicated to saving the lives of iguanas through education. Many iguanas are abused or neglected because of ignorance by the owners as well as the distributers of the iguanas and we would like to change this. We are doing this by educating the public about the proper care of iguanas, and making the public aware of the neglect and abuse that iguanas go through so that it will stop. VA NIAD INC was incorporated 8 Jun 00. We have changed our name to Foundation for Iguana Rescue Safety and Training Inc (FIRST)as of May 2001. We are expecting our 501c3 paperwork in May 2001.

On Sept. 8, 2001, our hope is that each member of NIAD, herptological societies, zoos, veterinarians, and some pet shops will in some way educate the public about iguanas.
