Q. Where is �stavall, exactly?
A. In Medelpad!
Q. Where is Medelpad?
A. It's unclear. Medelpad is a province, not a county. "Medelpad" may even mean "middle of the country." The county that roughly overlaps Medelpad is called V�sternorrland.
Q. Where is V�sternorrland?
A. It is maybe 200-300 miles north of Stockholm, taking up the east side of a chunk of Sweden.
Q. Tell me about V�sternorrland.
A. The biggest city I could find in V�sternorrland is Sundsvall, near the coast, population 93,486 and falling.
(Yahoo! lists Sundsvall weather: for mid-April, daily lows of 28-30F, daily highs of 39-52F. By the way, on May 14, sunrise is at 2:58AM!)
(Here's a fun Sundsvall fact: "A windy day in 1888 August O A Staff was burning tar in his back yard. A man came and asked him to sign a check. While signing the check the backyard took fire and soon the whole city were burning. The city was completely destroyed.")
Inland, almost due west of Sundsvall (and SE of Ostersund), is the town of �nge. �stavall is less than 20 kilometers down the winding road 83 from �nge.
The municipality of �nge, which has been populated for more than 7,000 years, has a population of 11,500.
�nge town's population is 3,061.
�stavall's population is 276.
�nge is proud to be near to the geographic center of Sweden, as established in the 1940s!
