1994 Essay: Unfortunately I can't remember my original essay for this year about the state of the motion picture. All I remember is common knowledge, that two movies dominated popular thought: the lowbrow winner was Forrest Gump, and the highbrow winner was Pulp Fiction. Both have their adherents and their detractors, but there was NOTHING like the buzz each generated. Only a handful of movies ever have scenes or quotes that enter the common vernacular, and I think that no other movie has ever spawned a restaurant chain (unless you count Popeye's Fried Chicken). I can see both films from both sides, so both made my list.
