12. How do you trim/cut your iguanas claws ?

Depending on how long they are and how long it has been since the last trimming, we use either standard nail clippers or a Dremel rotary tool. Keep in mind that any claw trimming around here starts off with a good soak in a lukewarm bath to both relax the ig and soften the claws a bit. If claws need to be drastically cut, in many cases of new rescues, we will clip them. If a quiet night turns into a claw trimming event we will use a Dremel with one of the sanding attachments. One recommendation here, if you are thinking of purchasing a rotary tool in general (they really ARE very handy to have around) you may want to seriously consider a cordless model. Ours is a corded version and while it is excellent for hobby/restoration use a cordless would make it much easier to chase reluctant iguanas around...
There is also a claw "melting" tool out there that we haven't heard much about at all. The concept seems to be interesting enough where as you only touch a hot wire to the tip of a claw in order to melt and round the tip. If anyone has any experience with these tools we would be interested in hearing about your experiences with them.
