Dakota Divas
GREAT PLAINS/PACIFIC REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Team History:
Owner Notes:
The Divas have had the slowest start in the history of the league.  Initially conceived as the Nebraska Bratwurst Kings, the franchise posted a winning percentage of .319 in seven seasons under John Foss’s direction--having never made the playoffs or posting a winning record in that time.  After 2005, Foss left and the team was given a new face and a new location--the Dakota Divas with new owner/general manager/head coach/director of media relations/head cheerleader/chief custodial engineer/head trainer/chief groundskeeper Megan Shannon undertook the challenge of bringing the Divas up to the level of respectability.  She did so, by giving the Divas their first winning season in franchise history in 2006.  Yearly won/loss records for the Divas are located here.

Coach Shannon’s popularity in the Dakota
region knows no bounds.  South Dakota even named a county after Coach Shannon
Team Nostalgia:
The first draft pick in Dakota Diva (Nebraska) franchise history was Dorsey Levens, RB.

Hometown Notes:
The Dakota franchise is very proud of its historical roots.  Located in the traditional territory of the Yankton Indian tribe, the Divas were almost named after one that tribe’s most famous chiefs (not to be confused with a Conan O’Brien character), but ultimately the “Diva” logo was adopted.  The Dakota region is known for its large carved stone faces, leather-chaps-clad visitors, and its competitive scholarship programs.  For more “plain talk” about the Dakota region, you can visit many locations on the web.

Franchise Location:

(pictured below and left).  Unfortunately, Shannon County boasts the title of “the second-poorest county in the United States”, based on per capita income.  The irony is not lost on Coach Shannon, who took over for the poorest franchise in the IFFL.  Ever undaunted, Coach Shannon is intent on turning things around for the Divas, and that starts with attitude.  To back this up, all Diva players are given their own copy of “How to Be a Diva”.  In one excerpt, morning sessions of two-a-days at training camp will be replaced by Diva-lesson seminars such as this:  “Rule Number Two: Only after you’ve achieved inner Divahood  can youmove to the next step. Yes, the outer Diva. It’s soeasy to make a faux pas so I caution you to be extremely careful.  Start at the top. The hair-do.  This is a must. It should be a little poofy, but not so poofy it hangs on tree branches or birdsdecide it looks like a great place to make a nest.  And remember, I’m cringing here---no, absolutely no sparkle stuff in your hair. If it glitters, get rid of it."
  • Coach Shannon trading cards make stunning accessories for any occasion.  Their fabulous versatility and dazzling appearance will make the perfect fashion statement.  They can be worn as earrings, as a broach, or as other jewelry as you see fit.  The sky is the limit—Divalicious!!
