HomeLouise Veronica Ciccone, Madonna, was born on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. Madonna was third of eight in a traditionally large Italian family. Madonna was a straight A- student and received a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan. After a year of college Madonna moved to New York in 1977 with just $35 and a suitcase of dance clothes to further her career. For a while Madonna worked as an assistant to modern dance choreographer, Pearl Lange. Madonna's career began when she joined the group "The Breakfast Club." She was discovered as a solo singer and Madonna's first album was made. The first album Madonna sold as a solo artist was "Madonna" in 1983. Other albums were "Like A Virgin"(1984), "True Blue"(1986), "Who's That Girl"(1987), "You Can Dance"(1987), "Like A Prayer"(1989), "I'm Breathless"(1990). "The Immaculate Collection"(1990), "Erotica"(1992), "Bedtime Stories"(1994), "Something to Remember"(1995), "Evita"(1996), "Ray of Light"(1998), and "Music"(2000). Between all these albums, Madonna has sold over 131 million copies, worldwide since July 27, 1983, and they are still selling. With every new album there is a new look Madonna portrays. She has changed her image over several times through the years from "Boy Toy" to modern day Betty Boop to strong and forceful to Disco Cowgirl. Along with music Madonna has also starred in many motion pictures such as: "Vision Quest"(1984), "Desperately Seeking Susan"(1985), "Shanghai Surprise"(1986), "Who's That Girl"(1987), "Bloodhounds of Broadway"(1989), "Dick Tracy"(1990), "Truth or Dare"(1991), "Shadows & Fog"(1992), "A League of Their Own"(1992), "Body of Evidence"(1993), "Dangerous Game"(1993), "Blue in the Face"(1995), "Four Rooms"(1995), "Girl 6"(1996), "Evita"(1996), and "The Next Bet Thing"(2000). Madonna also performed on stage in Goose and Tomtom in 1986 and in Speed the Plow in 1988. Madonna has been nominated and has won numerous awards over the years and has even been placed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most costume changes in a film from the movie "Evita."
Madonna is now the proud mother of Lourdes Maria, and Rocco Ritchie. Madonna has finally agreed to marriage and will marry her fiancée, Guy Stuart Ritchie, on December 22, 200 in Scotland. Over the years there has been much controversy on Madonna's sexuality and the way she expresses herself. People are disgusted on how she portrays herself as a woman. The comment Madonna had to make towards this was, "I was really turning my nose up at the whole idea that women aren't allowed to be sexual and erotic and provocative and intelligent and thoughtful at the same time." -Madonna
