Finally, it stops raining (3)

On Tuesday evening, I went to the meeting of the Christian Union of Loughborough University, which takes place in a large hall in the School of Arts and Design. The meeting consisted of praise & worship (song-singing), followed by a talk. Although it rains heavily outside, I was glad that there were nearly a hundred students attending the meeting. There I met a student worker of the Universities & Colleges Christian Fellowship (the British equivalent of Fellowship of Evangelical Students (HK) and Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship (US)), who works among the Christian fellowships of the universities in Nottingham, Leicester and Loughborough. Quite a hard job.

On Wednesday, I met Sarah, another biologist in my College, in Loughborough. She is very keen on rowing, and is a member of the women rowing team of Trinity Hall. Our college is very good at sport. Recently, our women rowing team won the championship in an inter-collegiate rowing competition in Cambridge. Well done!

Sarah lives in a village quite a distance away from both Nottingham and Loughborough. She drove me to a country park outside Loughborough. In Leicestershire, to which Loughborough belongs, there is plenty of rural area. The country parks of Britain are managed by a voluntary organisation, the National Trust. I think they are all well managed. As it is now winter, the branches of most trees are bare. It is a good experience to walk through a wood with many tall trees beside you. I like countryside. It gives you a feeling of the Nature, which you can never experience in the busy and bustling life of Hong Kong.

After having lunch in the town centre and visiting the Charnwood Museum, which gave me a rough introduction of how this area developed through ages, Sarah drove me back to the University. Thank you, Sarah.

In the evening, I attend the Christmas Carol Service of Loughborough University, organised by its Chaplaincy. It was attended by Christians from various traditions, e.g. Anglican, Methodist, and Catholic, etc.

Beside sightseeing and meeting friends, I have started, eventually, my revision, which I could not done any in the week before when I was in Cambridge, packing all my stuff and writing emails and Christmas cards. I found it very challenging to revise hundreds of pages which were taught in the 8-week term, in the month forthcoming.

I shall set off for London tomorrow morning. On Sunday afternoon, I shall fly to Luxembourg, and explore this small Grand Duchy for 4 weeks.

Thank you very much for reading such a long newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading it and are not bored. Please feel free to give comments. If you think it is too long, please let me know.

By the way, it stops raining today. It is sunny. How lovely is the sun! Eventually, there is a day which does not rain. Thank Goodness!

Write to you in Luxembourg.
