| A Track by track review of self-proclaimed Chris Ballew addict, Lee Skilton from the UK: "Disc 1: 1. Ribby Rib - Pudding Capacity Great recreation of a subset classic with hard hitting bass drum and hard chuggin' guitar. Good rap-metal fillers too. 2. Hippy Happy Humping At The Hoedown - Pete Weiss Wow! I loved this amazing song from rare caspar cassette 'sonic uke' and it is my favorite track on the tribute. The backing is actually doctored at the start so it has a kinda psycadelic backwards effect and the mellowed lyrics are soothing and do justice to a great ballew song - just proves pusa need to resurrect this one. 3. Twig In The Wind - Son Of Shrimp Classic Pusa track made certainly darker and more gritty - definitely a good cover with lots of reverb and really cool bass guitar riffs. 4. Mess Of Doubt - Pubix Cube Love it - Cover of a giraffes track and its been made to flow sweetly from start to end - the lyrics on this one are real special and the pop rock guitar compliments nicely. 5. Telepathic Carthy - Poodle Mouth Yea! off the supergroup vinyl i was hoping someone would cover this and the bass is spot on , lyrics are spot on and the alternate bits in this version here are really cool if you know the original. 6. Supermodel - Momo Kickin Guitar n Drums and its got that fun fun rok pusa feeling throughout and really really closely follows the original - pretty darned impressive feat there! Chris would love this one. 7. A Place Far Below (heading out mix) - Stephen Davey Chillout time! very relaxed and well mixed ballew track with the headin out tune throughout. So yea Smile real relaxing great piece of work. 8. Mach 5 Acoustic - Jonny Kirk Very clean pure sounding faultless acoustic guitar and lyrics. I especially like the bits Jonny tweaked on certain chords - sounds real funky. 9. God Damn - Franklins Mint Such a cool song from early on and well done here. The guys in the background sound real good and the guitar and lyrics once more are faultless and suitably perfect and clean. Breaks into a real nice riff in the middle too. 10. Death Star - Adam Flaherty Noise Machine! Funny alternative intro words and the progression from caspars original tape sound to the pusa sound are sorta met halfway by this really neat song that has the best of the mellow meaningful original and the heavier pusa version. Nice special effects and amazing electro riffs! 11. Monkey River - Mister Orange Now.....I always did prefer the original banjo version of this by caspar and this more closely follows that one so im more than happy! Its got some fx box or pedal on the guitar too which makes for a really clever electric remake of the tune. 12. Warhead (early version) - Pete Weiss Woohoo Smile ace tune with ace lyrics and ace rhythm throughout and another tune that makes this an essential purchase for all pusa fans. The guitar riffs are stunning and ill quit babbling and just buy it and see for yourself! 13. Bug City - Son Of Shrimp Their second contribution to the tribute album and it starts with nice effects and goes into a kinda mental acid trip through the bug city song. I really like this its like someone mashed the addictiveness of the ceasars - jerk it out remixed sounds into an amazing rehash of a pusa classic! - just my personal view but im real pleased with the sound of this one. 14. Useless Crushes - Hint Of Pledge Ive heard two egg versions of this and a new pusa version and this is a great tribute track as its a song thats been with chris since very close to the beginning. Crystal clear vocal talent and great backing too! To sum the album up in one sentence: '' this is an absolutely essential album for pusa heads so just take my word for it and buy this album right now'' Not to mention the original [PUSA Trib] cd can be purchased with it and the 'presidents we will miss you' track could almost be a reason the band are together today so you gotta check that one out to know what i mean!" |
