Over the past three months they have been serios errors in telex communication because of the use of abbrevations.

Of course the management realizes that shorter telex messages are quicker and therefore cheaper.

However we are concerned that abbrevations should not be used at the cost of clearity so please remember that many of our customers and suppliers are not fluent in englısh and dont use abbrevations that could be misunderstood otherwise many valuable orders will be lost.

A REPORT

The volume of our haviest shoes is 5.5 cubic metres per tonne. At present each tonne cost us 330 pound freight to send by sea. Air freight for the shoes is 350 pounds ,only 20 pound more.

However the volume of our lightest shoes is 8.5 cubic metres per tonne. So each tonne cost 510 pound freight for sea transport. This is only 350 pounds by air. I should also point out that by air there are fewer breakages and goods reach their destinations faster. I therefore suggest that we should change from sea to air transport for goods.

The quicker the telex call, the cheaper it is. So abbreviations are often used. But often abbreviations do more harm than good. Another telex message has to be sent to find out what the last one mean. Here are some of the abbreviations that our internationaly understod and misunderstood. Be careful

The containers is simply be lifted from one form of transport to another. Goods need very little packing before going into a container. Things that would usually take two days two pack can be put into container in only one hour. There are not many breakages,either. So all televisions should arrive safely. Some containers are built to fit the airplane.Some airplane containers are collapsible.When they are empty,they are fold up to save place.There is machinery for fast loading of containers at many port now.Ships can carry 2500 of them.There are some train containers. They were special built to carry goods at very low temperature. More and more companies are buying their own containers designed specially for their goods.

Before an importer and exporter sign a contract.They must decided who is going to pay what. İf they are F.O.R then the sailler will only pay for the goods to be transported to a named railway station. The buyer must pay after that. S.A.f. usually means that the seller will pay until the good have been delivered to a part in the buyers country.And if it is C.F the buyer must also pay the insurance for the whole journey.
