A Dark Day Indeed

A salty pool of tears glistens
Filled with crystalline shards of red
And wispy dark vapors meander
As I lay there dying and dead
The tears were shed at my demise
The shards are the remains of a broken heart
The vapors are what remains of shattered dreams
Of love lost and torn apart
I was a popular belief
Something to have and hold
To brighten many futures
Of the young and the old
I was sought after by many
For love, glory, and fame
But I was slain by the loss of these
For Hope was my name.

Spring Dawning

The winter frost is diminishing
As the days are getting longer
The north wind is moving on
As the south winds get stronger
The snow melts at a quickening pace
To let the world begin anew
The browns of winter's grass begins to fade
As the green of spring comes through
The trees begin to shake their winter shroud
As their buds begin to bloom
The flowers start to break the ground
As their petals unfold to fight for room
The grass has a newborn shade of green
In stark contrast to the rose's red
Spring has started its cycle of life
As winters time is now dead
Birds begin to sing their joyous song
As love blossoms in the air
The animals rejoice in nature's gift
Touched by God with living care
The world sheds its winter sleep
To behold a magic and wondrous thing
The sun bares its morning light
For the dawning of the spring.

Broken Hearts and Shattered Dreams

A broken heart is like a shattered dream
The mourning song of the unicorn
Is like a silent primal scream
So lostso forlorn
The loss of love is a painful blow
That no true soul can heal
A nightmare of reality
Only sadness can prevail
The unicorn weeps a silent dirge
As true love dies today
The dream of hope and happiness
Lies shattered along the way.
A broken heart is like a shattered dream

Last Night at Camp

The flowing breeze cools the skin
As the burning sun sets on the land
Lanterns are lit to cast a glow
As night's darkness is at hand
The fire burns bright within the pit
As marshmallows are passed around
The kids toast their treats with joy
As chirping crickets enhance the evening's sound
The 'smores are eaten with glee
As jammies and sleepy heads prevail
Slumber comes quickly and quietly though
For tomorrow comes without fail
The morning dawns with amber light
As children rustle in their tents
Saddened by the fact they have to pack
Still wondering where their camping trip went.

The Dying Breed

I commit my thoughts to this paper
For my heart is in this world
I live a solitary kind of life
As my loneliness is unfurled
My tale begins, oh so long ago
In a not so distant past
I've shed many flowing tears though
For the truth makes them last
I've lived and learned of many things
And shared and lost in the game of love
But I've kept the hope of dreams alive
From here on earth to God above
But time erodes a single man's soul
As my faith slowly goes away
The flame of love begins to dwindle
As my hope fades more each day
I wonder if I'll ever be happy
With a woman to love and hold
If that day should ever arrive
With luck I'll be young and not that old
But time has a way of aging man
And my time is growing near
My search is endless and tiring
To find the love I hold so dear
I don't think its too much to ask
To have someone by my side
To laugh with and to care for
To share feelings I have deep inside
I wonder though if my hope is gone
Or if my dreams are lost in the wind
The memories I've kept seem from another life
The people and places seem to never have been
Maybe someday I'll find my love
To care for and comfort in their time of need
I am an animal, yes, sad but true
The last of a dying breed.
