Orienteering 101
Aka:Ilana learns to read a map and use a compass
So here we are...me, Jessica and Susan.
Team name..."Team Strawberry"
Why?? How do you get the team names, well, "You Pick 'Em!"

Orienteering 101-
First thing they do is show you how to read a compass...ok, that's easy
Then they teach you how to read a topograhic map...ok, got that
Then they give you destination points that you plot on your map..ok, I can do that.
Then they send you out in the woods, through the brush, off trail
to go from point to point using your map and compass...somewhat challenging.

Well we got through the white "practice course" just fine so we got a little ballsy...
So we entered our team in to the Orange "intemediate" course...We did it!!
We finished and didn't come in last!  What a great time. I can't wait to do it again!
You run around like a giant scavenger hunt looking for these orange and white baskets where you clock in with an electronic puch card. On the easy course, it's pretty obvious, like in a playground (see pic to left) but as the courses get more difficult, they hide the markers in the woods, in the brush, whereever they can hide it to make it more technically challenging. You run through the woods, climb mountains, hike through ravines and more! FUN FUN!!
