| 2001 JULY/ AUGUST TOUR CANCELLED 22/07/01 idlewild have had to cancell their entire July and August tours of America as Rod is not fit to fly to the States yet. The Lemon Tree gig and festival appearances will go ahead though. ROD HOSPITALISED/ GIG CANCELLAIONS 09/07/01 it was announced on the Official Idlewild website that Rod Jones has had to be admitted to hospital. The reason for this is not yet known, it is said to not be too serious, but I hope he gets better soon. Due to Rod's hospitalisation, idlewild have had to cancell the firt few gigs of their next American tour. WARM-UP DATE 28/06/01 idlewild will play a smallwarm-up gig, before the V2001 festival, at The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen, on the 16th August. See Tour News for more details... V2001 24/05/01 Idlewild will be playing on the Main Stage at this year's V2001 festival They will play Weston Park, Staffordshire on Saturday 18th August & Hylands Park, Chelmsford on Sunday 19th August. Other acts confirmed for the day Idlewild are playing are: Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, David Gray, Placebo, Neil Finn, Powderfinger (main stage) Toploader, Divine Comedy, Doves, The Webb Brothers, Starsailor, Ben Folds, Turin Brakes, Ed Hardcourt (2nd stage) Grandaddy, Sparklehorse, Alfie, The Bush The Tree And Me (JJB arena) UNISON GIG 29/04/01 I've been guilty of not updating the news section for a while... Apparently the UNISON gig (saturday 28th) was pretty good (although i couldn't go, grrr) and the set list ran- 'Listen To What...', 'Little Discourage', 'Film For The Future', 'I Don't Have The Map', 'Idea Track', '...Shapes', 'These Wooden Ideas', 'Actually It's Darkness', 'Roseability', 'Captain'. The set seems fairly standard, none of the new tracks were played, and was 100 Broken Windows heavy (but so it should be). There was a good turn out of fans, and Roddy wore a suit jacket thing FESTIVAL APPEARANCES 29/04/01 Unfortunately Idlewild are not playing the Reading/ Leeds festival again this year, contrary to rumours, but are playing the Glasgow Green on sunday 26th August, headlining the Budweiser True stage. SECOND AMERICAN TOUR 29/04/01 Idlewild will tour North America again, this time as support to Placebo, with the first date starting April 30th at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit. They may also include some headline dates on the West Coast. COAL EXCHANGE GIG- SET CUT SHORT BY LOST VOICE! 08/09/01 Last night's set at the Cardiff Coal Exchange- a kind of warm up for the American tour- was cut a bit short by Roddy's throat giving in. Throughout the performance Roddy was a little subdued, not shouting or jumping about as much as usual. The band left the stage after a shorter than usual set. When we met him after the gig he told us (well, croaked) that he had lost his voice, although it had been alright at the start of the gig. He also said that they had planned to do a few more, possibly including Quiet Crown and maybe an acoustic number. I told him I hoped his throat got better for the American tour, which they left Britain for today. The first date is tomorrow night at the Starfish Room, Vancouver. Will they have to cancell their first date? And why does Roddy always get a cold when he comes to Cardiff?? The gig however, was still far better than any other band in Britain. The set list included - 'Listen To What You've Got', 'Little Discourage', ' A Film For The Future', 'Roseability', 'Idea Track', 'I Don't Have The Map', 'Rusty', 'These Wooden Ideas', 'I'm A Message', '...Shapes', two new songs and one encore: 'Captain'. Rod and Bob were on top form, Rod's excellent jump-in-the-air-and-shout-like-you-mean-it "SHAPES" and Bob banging away like the bass mangler he is. Jeremy kept a bit uninvolved as usual, and Colin had a cool tee-shirt. Apart from Roddy's voice, the gig passed without incident, although Bob did have to ask people to stop throwing water onstage as it would mess up the electrical equipment. Oh and someone threw loo-roll onstage, how rock n' roll... MANCHESTER UNISON GIG 22/02/01 Idlewild, along with Catatonia, Dum Dums, Toploader and Wheatus will play a charity gig at Manchester Evening News Arena on April 28th. The event is in aid of UNISONS 'Campaining For A Living Wage', which attacks the minimum wage, pensions and poverty. Tickets are 10, and are available from the Arena hotline (on 08705 275409) or straight from the Arena box office. As my mum worked for UNISON - when it was known as NALGO - It's great Idlewild are doing this gig, so go if you can, even if all the other bands are crap! RECORDING ALBUM/ SMALL GIG 21/01/2001 Idlewild are hiding somewhere in a country studio, working away on their fourth album, with Stephen Street who has worked on albums with The Smiths and Blur. They will also play an all acoustic 220 capacity gig at the 13th Note Club, Clyde Street, Glasgow on the 9th Februrary. The set will feature old and new songs. The proceeds will go to a local project trust for children, the tickets are 6 and are available from the Note and Missing Records. NEW ALBUM 10/02/2001 Idlewild will be writing new songs and recording their fourth album in January and Febuary this year. Roddy hopes to get the record out "some time in late summer". Roddy commented on the new album this week in NME:" It's modern stadium bubblegum; I think that's the new genre. We've been writing songs all year. We took a four-track on tour with us in Europe with Placebo and wrote a lot of songs acoustically. I think they're more melodic and we're really paying attention to that. There's not very many good rock bands of our ilk around. There's great American bands like At The Drive In and Queens Of The Stone Age, but apart from that it's all Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach and the like. We're a Brittish indie band but we don't deny The Rock." AMERICAN TOUR 10/02/2001 The band are off to America to tour in March following the release of '100 Broken Windows'. Its the second time they have toured North America and are happy about the positive reaction the album has had over there. |
