| Toyota announced in 1999 that they would join the formula 1 championship as a factory team for 2000. However Toyota decided it would be better to wait for the 2002 season before joining. The main reason was that the team were unhappy about the amount of testing they had done on the car. Toyota are expected to be sucessful even in thier debut year and will have one of the largest budgets in formula 1. Here is some more info on the team and it's drivers.
