BUS TOPOLOGY


DEFINITION / PHYSICAL :
A BUS NETWORK CONSIST OF A SINGLE CENTRAL CABLE BACKBONE/TRUNK , TO WHICH ALL COMPUTERS AND OTHER DEVICES CONNECT (NODE)

LOGICAL TOPOLOGY :
IN A BUS NETWORK , IT TRANSMIT DATA , INSTRUCTION AND INFORMATION AS A SERIES OF SIGNAL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS WHERE ALL NODES RECEIVE THE SIGNAL BUT ONLY IN BOTH DIRECTIONS WHERE ALL NODES RECEIVE TH SIGNAL BUT ONLY TH INTENDED RECIPIENT WILL ACCEPT THE SIGNAL AND THE REST WILL IGNORE .

ADVANTAGES :
COMPUTERS AND OTHER DEVICES CAN BE ATTACHED AND DETACHED AT ANY POINT ON THE BUS WITOUT DISTUBING THE REST OF THE NETWORK .

DISADVANTAGES :
IF MORE COMPUTERS ARE CONNECTED , THE PEFORMANCE OF THE NETWOK WILL BECOM SLOWER BECAUSE OF DATA COLLISION .
RING TOPOLOGY


DEFINITION /PHYSICAL :
ON A RING NETWORK , A CABLE FORMS A CLOSED LOOP (RING) WITH ALL COMPUTERS AND DDEVICES ARRANGED ALONG THE RING .

LOGICAL TOPOLOGY :
-DATA TRANSMITTED ON A RING NETWORK TRAVEL FROM DEVICE TO DEVICE AROUND THE ENTIRE RING, IN ONE DIRECTION (CLOCKWISE OR COUNTERCLOCKWISE) UNTIL IT REACH IT DESTINATION BY USING TOKEN .

ADVANTAGES :
THE USES OF TOKEN PASSING ENABLES ALL DEVICES IN ARING TOPOLOGY TO SHARE THE NETWORK RESOURCES FAIRLY

DISADVANTAGES :
A RING NETWORK CAN SPAN A LARGER DISTANCE THAN A BUS NETWORK , BUT IT IS MORE DIFFICULT TO INSTALL
STAR TOPOLOGY


DEFINITION/PHYSICAL :
ALL COMPUTERS AND OTHER DEVICES ON THE NETWORK CONNECT TO A CENTRAL DEVICE (HUB/SWITCH) THUS FORMING A STAR

LOGICAL TOPOLOGY :
- IN A STAR NETWORK, DATA, INSTRUCTIONS , AND INFORMATIONS TRANSFER FROM ONE NODE TO ANOTHER NODE PASSES THROUGH HUB/SWITCH .

ADVANTAGES ;
IF ONE DEVICE (PC/PRINTER) FAILS , ONLY THAT DEVICES IS AFFECTED

DISADVANTAGES :
THE NETWORK WILL BE MALFUNCTIONED IF THE SSINGLE HUB/SWITCH BREAK DOWN .
