| Waste Segregation |
| Waste segregation is done at source in the households and commercial establishments covered by the program, where wastes are segregated into: recyclables, compostables and residual wastes |
| Waste Collection |
| Clean Earth Corporation takes charge of collection. Only segregated wastes are collected. A three-times-a-week collec-tion schedule per household is implemented--once a week for residual waste and twice a week for recyclables and compostables. The informal sector lso collects recyclables directly from households. |
| Materials Recovery Facility |
| IDEAS manages a materials recovery facilit and composting center at Barangay San Miguel 2 where the recyclables are stored and the compostables are processed in a mechanized fermenting tank. Recyclables are sorted and stored unti the required volume is sufficient for the junk shop operators to collect them in bulk. |
| Composting |
| IDEAS used to impplement the heap method of composting but has shifted to mechanized composting in year 2000 with the assistance of the Japanese Government through the Japanese Embassy Grant Assistance Fund. The Facility to produce 300 bags (50 kg) of compost per month. Also located at the center are an organic vegetable farm and training center. |

| A fish processor was produced for the Silang Public Market through the assistance of the Clean and Green Program of the Office of the Governor of Cavite and was installed in 2001. This machine converts fish waste products into fish emulsion, an organic fertilizer product. |
| The residual waste is deposited at the one-hectare dumpsite owned by the municipal government of Silang located in Barangay Lalaan 1. The Municipal Engineer's Office is responsible for dumpsite management. |
| Information and education activities are primarily the responsibilities of the Silang Zero Waste Action Team. Monitoring and enforcement of SWM procedures are primarily the responsibilities of the barangay captains of the 14 barangays and the Silang Public Market Admnistrator. |
| An Executive Committee comosed of representatives from LGU and the non-governmental sector coordinate program activities. The different offices involved include the: Rural Health Unit, representatives of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, Municipal Agriculture Office, the Philippine National Police and the Municipal Engineering Office. A Barangay Captain's Forum composed of the barangay captrains from the 14 barangays also meets regularly to monitor the prograss of the program. |
