Pillage Malt!

IDEAs were recently presented with a rare bottle of Islay Pillage malt whisky to replace one which had been cruelly stolen in a burglary last year. IDEAs Resource Centre were originally presented with a bottle of ‘Pillage Malt’ in 2004 to use for fundraising purposes.

The ‘Islay Pillage Malt’ is one of just over 400 bottles produced in 2003 when locals, including one of IDEA’s Members, toured the Island in a boat ‘pillaging’ whisky from each of the seven distilleries. The whiskies were then vatted and bottled to produce a one-off blend of Islay malts and the bottles were sold off with the intent that they would increase in value over the years..

In a burglary in October 2005, the bottle, along with money and a digital camera, was stolen from the Resource Centre - a huge blow to us and an act which shocked our supporters and struck a chord with the organisers of the Pillage Malt scheme . In an act of great kindness, the organisers bought back a bottle of the 2003 Pillage Malt from a local source for an undisclosed fee. Kevin Campbell, one of the organisers then presented this, along with a bottle of the more recent 2005 Pillage Malt, to IDEAs Patron, Leonie Fane (daughter of Bruno Schroeder) , at the Islay Show.
