The "Science" Behind Mile High City
Mile High City exists as it does for several reasons, the first is that due to the extreme diamagnetic nature of an ore that was discovered near the Earths mantle in the mid-1800s, that when kept in a molten and highly pressurized state seems to be nearly weightless, and in fact there was an evolved species of creature that was indigenous to the deep earth that developed a technology from it. When the group of scientists discovered this secret to magnetic levitation, they excitedly returned to the surface, though the group met with disaster and several of the scientists and foreign envoys that had helped to fund the expedition died as a result. The remaining scientists decided to keep their discovery a secret, however word leaked out and reached the ears of John D. Rockefeller, who immediately gathered the funds together and began construction on Mile High City as his greatest project.
Early on in the massive undertaking, it was discovered that humans could not withstand the great temperatures required to keep the ore in a liquid state, even with pricey environmental suits that were developed, so a deal was struck with the leader of the sub-surface people and several hundred males and females were secretly shipped to the construction site. The citys powerful Levitron Engines keep the liquid ore flowing through an extremely pressurized tube that encircles the citys base, the motion of the flow helps to increase the diamagnetic properties to the point where they react against the natural magnetic field of the Earth, thus lifting the city, how high the lift is determined by the amount of ore and how quickly it flows. Within a few years, the city was ready to be unveiled, and the citys Levitron Engines came online, lifting the base of Mile High City from its construction yards. The press immediately dubbed it The City of Dreams, and it remains floating about a mile above the New Jersey coast, a shining beacon to American ingenuity and perseverance.
Once the citys platform was deemed to be safe by the powers-that-be, people began to flock to Mile High City, and construction began in earnest for what Rockefeller hoped would become a utopian society where nobody went without and where cutting-edge technology was a part of daily life.
