Present: Chris Taow, Nancy Kure, Jean Giuffre, Colleen Fillmore, Kathe Gabel, Erin Francfort, Marisue Smith, Jean Zaske, Vicki King, Jean Heinz, Mary Ann Dangman, Linda Rankin, Christy Smith, Becky Sulik

The meeting was called to order at 5:20 pm MST.
Roll call confirmed a quorum of voting members.

The Consent agenda including the minutes of previous meeting, delegate report, budget, President-elect annual meeting report, foundation report, and nominating committee report was approved.

Old Business
Review of Strategic Plan Under Goal #1, Strategy #3, it is unclear what is meant by  Target media activities to reach key audiences.  Since Laura Thomas was not at the meeting, and this affects her office, Chris will contact her individually to discuss.

New Business
Coalitions We have a line item in the budget of $300 for Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies.  Question Are there other coalitions IDA belongs to?  Jean Heinz reported that we belong to the Coalition for a Healthy Idaho (concerning allocation of the Tobacco monies) and that she and Roseanna Holliday have attended their meetings.
The general consensus was to continue to be part of HMHB, but if a $500 fee is required again for the birth announcements, we will discuss it at that time.

Ideas for contacting membership- Groups identified to contact include non-ADA members, those who have not renewed membership, new graduates, and those who have recently moved here.  Ideas
1.  RDs could invite students to IDA meetings and stay with them during the meeting, introduce them to others, etc.
2.  2.We could use a telephone tree for each area to contact non-members.

The leaders of the following area dietitians groups need to be identified and sent to Christy Smith so she can elicit their help in recruiting new members:
Treasure Valley Dietitians, Magic Valley Dietitians, N. Idaho Dietitians, Pocatello Dietetic Association, Moscow, Idaho Falls District Dietitians.  Publishing these leaders names in the DietEcho was suggested as a way to increase visibility of local leaders.
3.It was suggested we conduct an informal telephone survey to find out why non-member RDs are not joining.  Christy and Erin will work on a skeleton script.

Annual Meeting It was suggested that we invite the newly elected Congressman for the 1st District, Butch Otter, to be a speaker at the meeting and let him know what dietitians do and the importance of supporting our legislation.  The committee is meeting next week and will discuss options at that time.

Nominating Committee
Discussed whether we should consider changing the bylaws to allow candidates on the ballot who have not been an IDA/ADA for the previous two years. It was suggested that we consult with SeeAnne Safaii and Elaine Long, both past bylaws chairs, and also with ADA before pursuing this further.  The committee will continue to make phone calls to try to find qualified candidates.

Overall Communication Everyone is encouraged to get e-mail addresses for members and potential members to facilitate communication.  Kathe and Jean Zaske will work together to keep e-mail updated.

Announcements
The next meeting will be Thursday, January 11 at 5:15pm MST, 4:15pm PST.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:10pm MST.

Respectfully submitted,
