| House League meeting Monday Jan 7, 2008 Meeting called to order and led by house league coach, Dave Sewell. Dave first discussed a new Learn to Play Hockey program in the works for Monday nights for "Termites" or 4-6 year olds. This program would be split in to 2 30 min. sessions (if high enough numbers and would take 1/2 of ice during squirt travel practice. He next brought up the schedule for the upcoming house league session. He proposed an added 45 minute peewee/bantam skating drill on Wednesdays since the rink had an open slot. This would not increase the cost of house league and in turn, would shorten Thursday ice time for the peewees and bantams. Concerns were raised by parents about the extra night of skating, schedule conflicts ,etc. Per a parent suggestion, the idea of that extra 45 minute skate time be added to Sundays practice was discussed. Both ice times will be added to the schedule for the peewees and bantams in hopes that the players can attend one or the other. Dave will e-mail newly proposed schedule to everyone as discussed. Dave discussed his goals for the house league stating that he wants skills and skating drills performed as well as alternatives to regular games such as ultimate hockey and other games that enforce passing. He discussed the importance of this agenda in building the overall hockey player. He read some hockey coaching goals and expressed the need for strong parental support in achieving his goals as a coach. Jeff Yaeger, the travel peewee coach addressed the attendees by talking about his goals for his team and encouraged parental support in order to achieve these goals. Concern was brought up about board meetings not being regularly scheduled or posted so that parents could easily attend. President Jennifer Flatte acknowledged and will hold meetings from here on out on the 2nd Monday of each month and will e-mail agenda items ahead of time Tina will post meeting minutes on the website as well. Fundraising was addressed. Becky Calacci volunteered to head a fundraising committee which will work along with a board member. Meeting was adjourned with the announcement of the next meeting which will be next Monday, January 14th at 7:15 pm. Jennifer will send out agendas via e-mail POST MEETING UPDATE FROM COACH DAVE SEWELL: I would like to thank all the parents who made it to the parents meeting on Monday night and thank all of you who provided me with feedback through email if you couldn't make it. I know this is a difficult transition period for our hockey program and we need all the input we can get to keep it moving forward. After lengthy discussion I believe the following is the agreed upon schedule. Sunday Jan. 13 - Mites&Squirts 8:15 - 9:15 - Peewees&Bantams 9:30-11:00 (approx. half practice & half games) Sundays will rotate times every week. Sunday Jan. 20 will be Peewee&Bantam first from 8:15 - 9:45, Mite&Squirt from 10:00 - 11:00. I realize this may be difficult to keep track of so I will try to have a full season schedule for everyone in the near future. Wed. Jan. 16 - Peewee&Bantam 5:30-6:15 (optional practice for any players that can make it) Thurs. Jan 17 - Mite&Squirt 5:30-6:30 The Wednesday and Thursday times will be every week throughout the season and will be included on the schedule I intend to put out. The "learn to play hockey" program we talked about for 4,5 & 6 year olds will not start this Monday. I talked with Todd and I believe he is planning on starting the program on the 21st or 28th. I will have this program included on the schedule before I hand it out. Until that time, please bring all kids to the appropriate house league games and/or practices. Again I thank you all for your participation and for your hard work as hockey parents. Dave Sewell [email protected] 608-347-7259 |
