Caledonian Thistle v Montrose (08 Feb 1995)

This game was during our first season as a league team. The match was due to take place during mid-week after a postponement of the Saturday fixture. I have always found it easier to get to mid-week games this is due to my work roster which, in some weeks, provides two days off mid-week.
I believe it was a Wednesday night fixture and my Railway timetable skills were put into action. To get there in time for the 19:30 kick off I would have to travel via Edinburgh and Aberdeen which would get me into Inverness at 18:30. I recall that the days leading up to the fixture the weather wasnt that good and I was concerned that the game may be postponed. (You just know whats going to happen here dont you). I decided I would make my way towards Edinburgh and make enquiries there about the fixture. If it was off I could return home and save the expense of a B&B etc.
I tried to contact the club but there was no answer. I then rang home for someone to check the Ceefax and, according to that, the game was on.
I had to decide whether to risk carrying on or return home. I knew that once Id left Edinburgh for Aberdeen there was no way I could return home until the next day. I took the decision to carry on.
My trusty stereo has always been my companion throughout my journeys North, and it was put to the test every hour by tuning into Radio 5 (or was it 2 then ?) to check the sports news. I was, of course, searching for info about the games status, not that it would have been much help once Id left Edinburgh.
Once Id arrived at Inverness I rang home to say Id arrived ok and it was then that I was told the match had been postponed. Disappointment was an understatement. Where were mobile phones and pagers then ?.
That was a 1000 mile or so round trip for nothing. The scenery was nice though.

(The fixture was eventually played on 14 Feb Montrose won 4-0 so maybe its just as well my game was postponed)
