SITE TOPIC: Content Management Systems & OpenSource IT solutions

Why did I create this site? As far as I find something interesting on the Web, I use to put links in this web space (in a word, this is a gateway to my bookmarks). May be, you were looking for some specific stuff, or you are the webmaster of a site linked by this site. In that case, consider linking me back :)

Content Management Systems

In the section open source projects, you'll find some very interesting notices to improve your IT expertise and proficiency.

If you aren't a programmer, keep on reading

I'd rather talk about CMSs (Content Management System). The more enterprises succeed at managing Online information, the more  they will be able to create value with it.
All the systems I will talk about are licensed under GNU GPL. Of course, if you're willing to pay for a product, there are many commercial alternatives. Anyway, opensource projects often reach higher quality standards, due to users feedbacks and many efforts from a huge community of developers to make them stable, performing and easy-to-use.

In programming, the term kiss stands for "keep it simple, stupid" ... so don't worry if you aren't experienced in content management. The software will do the dirty work for you.

What is a dynamic site? In short, you may think at dynamic sites like a very effectively way of sharing, processing and managing information.

Give up your concerns about shortcomings of statical HTML pages. Using a dynamic structure combined with a Content Management System, You'll be able to shift from a given layout to another without rewriting all your pages. Moreover, you will be able to edit templates and page elements (such like links).

NUKE

The most important and widely used CMS software is NUKE.
Nuke advanced content management system is a very good solution to create online communities. There are many modules you could install. Implementing new features (modules) is quite easy, so you can improve the system or either having it improved by other developers.

XOOPS

XOOPS is another CMS. It's very stable but a little bit slower in processing information than Nuke. By now, I suggest you should use this solution only if you have a good and fast server. If that is the case, You could find the administrative interface of XOOPS very user friendly. It's easy to activate/deactivate modules, accounts, user groups and users.
This could also be a nice solution to be used as an Intranet system.

PORTALMIX

The portalmix solution is very effective. It's a CM system with many  business oriented features. I'm actually implementing it in various contexts, such as portal / vortal systems and Intranets. It comes with a very exhaustive documentation, completely written in UML (Unified Modeling Language) and some modules. As the former ones, it's a multilingual system.
It's based on a core system module, which perform some common tasks (like login-out users, database connection, etc.) and several services, which are mantained separated from the core. I'm waiting for a blog reader to be implemented, 'cause it would be very interesting in Intranet systems. See more about portalmix and other CMS on CMS Exposed

In the CMS Exposed section you'll find extensive documentation about these solutions, and many other Content Management Systems.

Brief resumé

I began working in the media when my father made me a very important gift: an Apple Comp. While studying at college, I started a collaboration with several newspapers, writing manuals about C/C++, Object Oriented programming (OOP) and database design.
By now, I hold a degree in system architecture and I'm working on database conceptual design. I also have implemented logical and physical database architectures, mainly based on Oracle and SQL server. If you're interested on contacting me, please keep in touch

I have many hobbies and I do love lots of things. I like carribean music, dancing and I am a very intransigent vegan too.
