My hummers always fight over the feeders. Your birds actually seem to get along with each other, why?
Q.
The amount of food regularly available, both from feeders and the natural plants, trees and flowers, in the area coupled with an overwhelming number of other birds seems to have toned down their naturally agressive behaviors. There are still ocassional squabbles, but they don't last long.

How many feeders do you have, how much sugar-water do you make, and how long have you been feeding the hummingbirds?
A.
For close to 20 years we have continued adding feeders. Today, it's a total of 15 Artline 50 oz. feeders around the house and property. We make about 1.5 gals of sugar-water daily during the winter and 2.5 - 3 gallons per day during the spring & summer months. Yes ... that's a lot of sugar. We buy it in 25# or 50# bags - weekly.

What is the natural landscape and vegetation in your area?
A.
We live on 3 acres in the foothills of San Diego County. Our property is bordered by the Cleveland National Forest on one side. We have close to 50 Eucalyptus trees, maybe 6 full-grown Oaks, and some Yucca. We added the Hummingbird Garden last year for the first time.
