Two weeks before he was retiring, Ned called David to do a final investigation. Ned wanted David to go to Boise, Idaho to study a channeling group led by Professor Spear. This groups goes through hypnosis and communicates with a supernatural being known as the "Big Mind". Ned also wants to know more about Professor Spear. Spear was interested in the Dogon people, so he went to Mali, Africa to learn more. He brought his wife, his friend, and his sister-in-law along with him. During that time, his wife died and her twin sister went insane. David had to go undercover as a reporter to investigate this channeling group. He quickly fell in love with Lucy Temple, one of the twins in Spear's channeling group. David met the rest of the gang. He really admired Margaret and he liked Dr. Henry. Dr. Henry told him about the three layers of the brain. During their session while they were regressing into the past, Lucy looked as if she had actually become the Egyptian princess. Meanwhile, Ned went to visit Professor Buckley, Spear's friend who accompanied him to Africa. Buckley told Ned that the Dogon people saw identical twins as evil. Buckley refused to tell Ned everything, so Ned went to visit Frances. Buckley warned Ned that Frances was horrible. Frances was Spear's sister-in-law. Frances' room was creepy and she looked frightening because of her appearance and expression. The doctor had told him that Frances had once eaten the eyes of a boy. Frances was not insane, but possessed by a creature named Zenath. Zenath had possessed Frances through the genetic regression of identical twins. The creature tried to eat Ned, and it was then that Ned realized that it was a reptile. Ned went back to Professor Buckley's place. Buckley told Ned about everything that happened in Africa. Spear had learned about mutual hypnosis from a Dogon priestess, Kalu. He also learned how to reawaken the Setians, the reptiles, by hypnotizing identical twins using a particular technique. Spear did this experiment with his wife and her sister. One of the twins, who turned out to be Frances, had become a monster. She had made Kalu suicide. Frances then killed a mother and ate the girl alive. Buckley was lucky enough to save the girl's little sister. Frances had somehow lost her power, and was captured by the Dogon people, and Spear had killed Penny. Ned told David to leave the camp with Lucy immediately. David also told Ned to investigate Margaret. Ned found out that Margaret had no past, no fingerprints, and that she miraculously healed a room full of patients with spinal injuries. When David told Lucy about why she must leave with him because of the dangers that might happen due to their hypnosis project, she thought that he was exaggerating. She decided to leave with him, but she first wanted to try the hypnosis technique with her sister. Then, the horrible event happened, Lucy and Vera were transformed into reptiles. Meanwhile, David looked everywhere for Lucy. David then found his car totally destroyed. During that time, Vera had seduced Jon and ate him alive. When Ned came to the camp, he had found Lucy, who seemed normal. David and the rest of the group found the remainder of Jon's blood. They then went to find Professor Spear. Afterwards, they found Lucy lying unconscious on the floor. Lucy was dying, and Ned had finally reached them. Then Vera had come. She had wanted to kill them. Professor Spear tried to hurt Lucy, but Vera knocked him aside and killed him. Ned was its next victim. Before Ned left, he looked at Margaret. Now Ned is screaming in pain. David then realized that he must kill Lucy in order to stop Vera because it is the bond between them that enables the reptile to exist. He also discovered that Margaret is the Big Mind. David managed to twist Lucy's neck, even though it broke his heart, and then Vera died. Margaret then brought Lucy back to life and promised David that Ned will be OK. David and Lucy lived happily ever after.  |
